I'm excited for the medallions, kindred dominance, selvala, great henge, morophon, etc... Lots of good stuff spoiled so far. I pretty much only buy singles but the value seems to be decent so far at least, even at the $15/pack price. I'd say I'm cautiously optimistic and excited to see the uncommons and commons. Hoping for Pitiless Plunderer, Thornbite Staff, maybe even Reconnaissance.
I just canceled my Comannder deck preorder. I m not paying close to $400 after taxes for subpar and junk. I really just need a break from the game probably.
Rant: $400 is an investment to better your life. It's Bill money, food, car, ect. MTG is becoming expensive to the point that I cannot justify purchasing it anymore. $400 is something that should seriously be thought about. That's almost a steam deck. It's more than a switch. You get my point.
The "big" reprints will still remain up to tens of dollars per card so no hype for me
full arts are pretty as always so there'll be something to put into printer at least
Other than that I got oversaturated already before LotR and can't force myself to care. Maybe when they show fun pauper downshifts, but this stuff happens at the end anyway.
Seems like pretty low value so far for the price. I usually just buy singles anyway but I love draft and doubt I will be drafting this set. That's okay though, I'm excited for the next two standard sets.
I'm seeing a lot of pretty great reprints. There are a bunch of cards I've been wanting to pick up but have been waiting for a price drop, so I'm happy about that.
I think people would have a more positive outlook on it if the price of the sealed product wasn't so crazy high. This is really a buy singles situation... well, every set is a buy singles situation, but even more so now.
Out of interest, what do you mean by “dated”?
I’m glad to see older, expensive / hard to find cards being reprinted
I think this is most evident in the choice of legendary creatures, many of which hit the top of EDHrec years ago. Krenko, Omnath, Sidisi, Nekuzar, Mizzix, etc. Along with Land Tax, Commandeer, and Chromatic Lantern, the set seems to reflect the era when Commander was no more than an annual product.
There are so many new legendary creatures and EDH-playable cards released nowadays that, at least in my area, nobody is playing those old decks anymore.
Some of the spoilers to come in yesterday were pretty great, not gonna lie. It’s still going to be miserable to open Zetalpa in your $20 pack, but I think now there’s a critical mass of desirable cards to make it worth the gamble.
And while I’ve been mixed on the full-arts, the new Smothering Tithe is delightful and reminds me of the border-breaking layouts from Unglued.
