What's everyone on /m/gaming playing lately?

I'm still making my way through the Diablo IV campaign, really enjoying that but looking forward to blasting and figuring out if I enjoy the endgame more than anything at this point. I'm a binge Path of Exile player but the past few leagues haven't really done it for me. It's been nice to play an ARPG again and I'm enjoying D4's slower pace. Zoom zoom is great in POE, but it's nice to get back to basics a little bit.

Went with Whirlwind Barbarian. Know it's meta, but Cyclone Slayer is my favorite POE build so I'm just trying to enjoy my time as the overpowered class rather than fighting it haha.

Played through the Lies of P demo as well and thought it was mostly great. Not the greatest example of gameplay for the genre IMO, but the production values and the vibe were stellar.

How about you guys?

I hit about 90 hours in Tears of the Kingdom but then Street Fighter 6 and Diablo 4 came out so those two have been taking up most of my time now. Final Fantasy XVI in a couple weeks will be stealing time from those two haha it's a good month for games

[-] BreakNeckJim@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Wow, I didn't even know about FFXVI, what a year for gaming!

[-] Jojo@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

It's honestly turning out to be one of the best in a long time. A new Zelda, Diablo, Final Fantasy on top of a Star Wars sequel, Spider-Man sequel, Starfield...such a good year.

Street Fighter 6, and in really enjoying it. I'm not a fighting game guy at all, but they added a new Modern control scheme that lowers the barrier to entry. Now I'm having a blast every night with my buddies. I'd highly recommend it to anyone reading this.

[-] phi1997@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Been playing Street Fighter 6 too. It's been a lot of fun, though the monetization scheme they slapped on has me reticent for the game's future

I'm just wrapping up my rather thorough playthrough of Tears of the Kingdom and have quite enjoyed it. Maybe coning up on about 200 hours now. I'm not getting every Korok. Fuck that.

I don't know what to focus on next... I just came out of finishing CrossCode on my Deck before TotK dropped, and loved it.

Maybe it's time to slap on the Quest 2 and go for Firmament.

Oxygen Not Included.

What can I say? I'm a sucker for colony / simulation / management games. It has cute graphics, and it's still getting updates. And it works on Linux!

Persona 5 Royal. Finally picked it up on Steam Deck. I’m about 15 hours in and hooked.

[-] ResearcherNo2939@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Ooooooh - have fun!!!

Diablo 4, DRG, and Fallout 4 with the Horizon mod (which makes it feel very different, more hardcore survival based)

Diablo 4 is lots of fun. Idc what people are saying about cosmetics and shit. Easy to ignore.

While I agree charging $20 on a full price game is a lame thing to do, I also agree with you that as long as they stay cosmetics I could not give less of a shit how many there are or what they cost.

[-] OneMoreB@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

I spent the past couple weeks playing through TotK and it was very fun, but I played so much over a short period of time I definitely burned myself out a bit.

I've now been getting back into Parkitect, which I highly recommend if anyone is a fan of the older RollerCoaster Tycoon games

[-] OverPowerBottom@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

I just got back into Guild Wars 2. What a pleasant mmo to play casually for years.

When I'm feeling spicy, I pick up Deceive Inc. - I like the ability to play solo and not be forced to team up with people and this hits the right parts of the brain for me when I'm up to pvp.

I'm eagerly waiting for the new Team Fight Tactics set. I got bored of set 8 pretty quickly so this new update looks insane. I like that the devs are taking risks with augments and expanding the complexity of the game.

On the side, I've been trying to finish Dragon Age: Inquisition so I can delete it. I don't know if it's my attention span, but massive single-player RPGs with a breadth of content haven't been doing it for me... The gameplay/combat feels really repetitive and therefore makes progression tedious. I've recently given up on AC Odyssey because of this. :(

[-] Fishman@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Recently got a random burst of motivation to continue Shadow of War, which I started nearly four years ago. Finished the game, then caught up on Shadow of Mordor and replayed Shadow of War because I forgot the complete first half of the story. No idea why I didn't do that sooner, relearning the combat wasn't that hard and damn it's fun.

[-] HopingForBetter@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Friend recommended Dragon Age: Origins. I heard it helps satiate the Mass Effect hunger, so I'm looking forward to giving that a try soon. My kid is playing TotK, and I get to play next, so looking forward to a nice long stint of playthroughs soon!

Got hooked on Elder Scrolls Online again. It's so well designed for my preferences. If I want to relax I can just wander around and gather stuff and hunt for treasure chests, do quests etc. If I want a bit more action I can help people with world bosses or hop in a dungeon or if I want a challenge I can try trials.. One thing that frustrates me though is inventory management.. I'm so bad at it in every game that requires it.

[-] Saryn@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Inventory management is the bane of my existence! Then again, I tend to be a packrat in games... I feel like I need to keep every mat for possible crafting and far more gear than I should, "just in case". Especially in ESO, where I might roll a new character and want that old staff or bit of armor.

[-] Enxtar@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Soulstone Survivors, fun roguelike bullet-heaven on Steam Early Access, but under constant, consistent development.

[-] SemioticStandard@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Horizon on my Steam Deck, and The Last of Us Part 1 on my PS5

[-] Tsukuy0mi@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Exams are coming in a few days so I don’t really have much liberty, but I’ve been playing a lot of Honkai Star Rail and some Diablo 4 on the side too. I’d love to have more time to play either though.

Toggling between TotK and Spider-man on ps5.

I must admit the magic of TotK is somewhat wearing off but I am thoroughly impressed with Spider-man (especially as someone who isn't a big marvel fan)

[-] Mrk421@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Spider-man might have been the fastest I 100%'d a game. Nothing extraordinarily innovative but nicely polished and the swinging is just... so damn satisfying. Nice successor to the Arkham games, weirdly enough.

Just finished up the Diablo 4 campaign last night myself, then unlocked Nightmare. Might take a break and finish up the System Shock remake. The OG one was just before my time; SS2 was my entry to the series.

I've pretty much been addicted to Genshin Impact this past few months, the story is just so interesting to me.

[-] Lordofheaven@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

I have played Vampire Survivors. Very addictive game.

[-] Lolman228@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

I've been playing a lot of ULTRAKILL for a while, but I just got Payday 2 and have been having a blast with it.

[-] CapsLock@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Absolutely addicted to Elite Dangerous at the moment. Most of the time it's relaxing, sometimes it's terrifying, but at the moment I can't put it down.

I spent the last few weeks finally catching up on breath of the wild so I could go in to tears of the kingdom and oh boy, it's so good and I'm having so much fun. Haven't even thought about playing anything else for a little while now - though now I'm even more keen to play through some of the zelda classics.

[-] acedelgado@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

I never finished BOTW and was gonna go finish it first, but my buddy bought a Totk edition OLED switch after already having bought the game so he gave me his extra copy. I gotta say, as fantastic as BOTW is, Totk is legitimately even better! You've got a lot to look forward to!

[-] jennifilm@beehaw.org 3 points 1 year ago

Oh, I'm easily 30 hours into totk already - it's unbelievable how good it is!___

Pretty much just TotK. There are a few other recent games I’m interested in, but I don’t want to rush through TotK to get to them.

[-] delcake@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Final Fantasy XIV continues to dominate most of my free time, but Honkai Star Rail has definitely muscled its way in too since its release. I sure won't pretend that it isn't predatory in its gacha monetization, but there's a good game in there and I'm a sucker for sci-fi settings and for JRPGs.

On the XIV front, I've only got about half a rank to go before maxing out Island Sanctuary again from the latest update. Pretty excited to dust off Blue Mage again too when patch 6.45 drops.

[-] Poggervania@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Trying to find time to play Pathfinder: Kingmaker - just got done with the first major quest after founding your barony, so now I need to figure out how to make gold so I can respec my party members

[-] gunnervi@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

I just beat TOTK and while I'm still having fun exploring in that game I've also recently bought the Shadowrun Returns trilogy for super cheap and have been having a fun time with Dragonfall

[-] missingno@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Skullgirls - Although I say SG is my main game, truthfully I haven't made as much time to grind these days as I'd like. Drowned in pools at Combo Breaker. But after 8 years I'm okay with letting this be my casual comfort game now, don't have the drive to try and catch up to the top players anymore but I still enjoy playing Quick Match from time to time.

Them's Fightin' Herds - On the other hand I have been more focused on pushing my Velvet, managed to make top 16 at Combo Breaker this year. Top 8 next year!

Splatoon 3 - I've also been getting into Splatoon competitive, bit of a change of pace for me as everything else I play is 1v1, but I'm really in love with this game. Can't say I'm as good at it as I'd like to be, but I keep practicing. (By the way, I made a Splatoon sub here if anyone's interested)

Slay the Spire - This is just an addiction. After about 800 hours of vanilla I now screw around with the silliest Workshop mod characters I can find. Makes for a good background game while watching Youtube.

Persona 5 Royal - Attempting to make time for JRPGs in between my competitive stuff is probably a mistake, but I keep trying to do it anyway. Currently on the third palace.

I play a ton of Deep Rock Galactic. I bought the game on release but never really got into it. I always liked it, but i never really got into it. But when i suddenly did, oh boy it's so good.
Shout-out to Ghost Ship Games, free battlepass, free dlc's, and great player feedback. A true labor of love.

Recovering from COVID for the past ~week, so I've been sinking a lot of time into Ghost of Tsushima

[-] mycus@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Rain World. Game is just a masterpiece.

Not everyone's cup of tea, though. I'd say people who enjoy struggling to progress and don't mind dying might enjoy the game. It really doesn't hold your hand.

Doing Hunter's campaign right now, I think I might upload some of the footage bc the ecosystem is chaotic as fuck and I haven't seen any Rain World content around lemmy.

[-] x-ray@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

I just got my first gaming console (PS5) in like 15 years last month, so I have a lot to catch up on. I just finished God of War, probably going to aim to finish Spider-Man: Miles Morales next, then probably move on to Horizon Forbidden West or Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.

I've been getting back into FFXIV, myself. Life got crazy for far too long, so I had to leave games on the back burner for some time, but I've been trying to get back into the swing of things. That first login felt fantastic and I've been trying to pop in at least a few times each week. I finially finished capping my healers, so now I'm working my way through my nemises: DPS classes!

I just finished Manifold Garden and think I will begin with CrossCode or Hollow Knight, or both, today. Heard really good stuff about those games.

[-] missingno@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

CrossCode is wonderful, one of the best RPGs I've ever played.

[-] Jamie@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

I got back into WoW with the latest expansion and have been loving it!

[-] octopush@beehaw.org 2 points 1 year ago

Everyone said “Oh my gawd, you HAVE to play Howgwartssssss”. So I did - and 30 hours later I am 50% complete.

[-] Mate@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Spending my free time on Overwatch to be honest. Trying to get out of platinum as a DPS but doubt i actually have the willpower to do it.

Finished Tears of the Kingdom with all shrines and side quests and hit about 125 hours.
Also FINALLY played all the half life games. Just beat HL2 episode 2 and I see why people want a 3 now. What a cliff hanger!
Not sure what I’m playing next. Poly Bridge 3 looks chill. Loved the first 2.

[-] atocci@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Oh man, Tears of the Kingdom has had my full attention since it released. I'm taking the story slow and mostly doing side quests right now, so I've only beaten 1 of the temples so far.

Before that, I bought and Cassette Beasts on launch day for Steam Deck and played through it on there. It's the perfect Steam Deck game and a great refresh of the classic Pokémon game feel. Once I get tired of TotK I think I'll go back to it for side quests and completing the dex.

[-] El_Dupe@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Enjoying the heck out of The Case of the Golden Idol - a very different style of game! Myst meets clue, but more interesting than that sounds :)
