Disqualified from qualifying 🫠 It sounds like something a five-year-old could say

No mitigating circumstances

I wonder what would be a mitigating circumstance?

Rogue criminal siphoning off the remaining fuel.

Dont judge me

Pump failure but there still being fuel that could manually taken by taking tank out would result in less of a punishment. This sounds like there wasn’t 1L of fuel to extract for testing but the parts worked

Does that classify him at the back of the running cars? Or does that throw him behind everyone, including DNFs?

[-] EliteSeafowl@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

Since he was disqualified and then allowed to compete in the race after a request from Alfa, my assumption is that he would start P20 no matter what

[-] eroc1990@lemmy.parastor.net 2 points 1 year ago

That would make sense. Still sucks for him, though his showing wasn't all that strong to begin with today...

[-] Ejh3k@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

So... They just forgot to refuel him?

[-] derringerhk@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

This seems like a lot of bullshit to me. Disqualified from qualifying for a fuel sample? Has this happened before?

[-] EliteSeafowl@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

There needs to be 1L of fuel available for the FIA to test to ensure all fuel is within the regulations. Less than 1L won't be enough to properly test it.

Not sure if anyone has been disqualified from qualifying before but two years ago Vettel was disqualified from the Hungarian GP for not having enough fuel

[-] notavote@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I think 1L is old rule and they don't need that much nowdays for test. But it is rule and easy to define and measure, no need to change.

It's also enough to rereretest in case of disputed findings.
