In a lot of places in Switzerland it is going to be hot this weekend, what are your 'tricks' to keep cool?

I'm not in Switzerland right now, but I open all the windows when/ if it gets cooler at night, and then close them and the shades in the morning.

Anything to keep the heat of the day outside where it belongs.

Stop using a car, stop eating meat, stop buying new clothes and useless crap, stop flying to vacation places far away That's not enough but I'm doing my part

This would hopefully help on a broader term.

Swim in the Aare and, hear me out, hot tea.

I saw it in hot dry countries, there they drink tea and since I started to do the same, I can tackle the heat way better.

Wow never knew that, gotta try it out, thanks. When do you drink the hot tea, during the day?

[-] Encryption@feddit.ch 4 points 1 year ago

Yes, trough out the day, one to two cups while it is the hottest.

Great thanks, what kind of tea would you suggest? Does it matter?

Don't know if it matters, I just take whatever tea I want at that moment :)

Great, thanks for the tip.

In Morocco they make mint tea, and I find it quite refreshing.

If it gets too hot, take a fan put your drying rack for clothes in front of it and hang some damp towels from it in front of the fan. It's basically a homemade AC.

It really depends on what you’re used to. You look like having around 35c this weekend, that’s just normal summer weather for Australia.

I’d use the aircon or if you don’t have that, a fan. Make sure you stay hydrated. If it’s too hot, go to a shopping center or a movie which is most likely going to have aircon.

35 is nice, I’d have more trouble coping with your winters I think.

Nobody has AC in Switzerland 😂

[-] vampyre@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I thought that might be the case, not even at the shops? Everyone has it in Australia.

There is bunch of regulations that makes it hard to get permission to install it. People rarely have it in their homes. At commercial buidlings its more common.

Also it was not really neccessary in the past.

Adapting to the the heat is probably the main reason. I'm just not used to the hot weather.

Gonna go to Lac Tanay tomorrow for a swim

Ventilate in the night then close everything in the morning and roll the shades down wherever I can.

If it get's too hot despite this open the windows back up and get a light draft going.

Most recent addition is a small swamp cooler.

If I don't have to be home then a trip to the water or the mountains helps a lot too.

My current living situation has a bathtub, so when I returned from work yesterday I plugged it, lay down in it, put the shower head on my chest and let cold water dribble out of the shower head while browsing the kbinverse.
