FTA:

"AirJet isn’t a consumer product–consumers can’t buy it and modify their own MacBook Air, nor does Frore plan to create a kit for consumer sale. Frore’s MacBook Air demo is a proof of concept that it can be beneficial in a MacBook."

Soooo... "Dear Apple... NOTICE UUUUUSSSSS!!!!"

It sounds like they want to be acquired, and if their tech is as good as this article makes it seem, maybe Apple should. :)

[-] SinningStromgald@lemmy.world 21 points 11 months ago

Or they will "steal" it and drain the company in court.

No one needs to buy a rival or steal their tech anymore. Just get them to launch on the stock exchanges and then destroy them with your wallstreet buddies right there with some good old short and distort and cellar boxing, etc.

Apple buys companies like this all the time. Purchasing a company of this size would be like you or I opting for an extra shot of espresso at a coffee shop to them: trivial with significant competitive advantage.

That’s not what that word means in the context you’re implying it. Also Apple hasn’t been shy about acquiring companies for their tech.

Damn that's crazy! Closes lid on Framework laptop

[-] devilish666@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

I want to buy Framework Laptop but is it good as reputable brands or just marketing scam ?
Honestly i like laptop that can you swap everything inside it but i doubt the durability of it

[-] the_q@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

That's an interesting question. What's considered a reputable brand in 2023? What do you consider durable? One company allows you to replace every component with non broken parts and upgrades when they arrive, take older parts and reuse them in other projects, provides schematics to roll your own accessories and encourages tinkering. The other company is so locked down that when 1 component fails the device fails. When the device gets old it is thrown in a landfill. The power of the system is artificially "tuned" for battery longevity at the cost of performance because once again you can't swap the battery...

C'mon, man.

What i think reputable & durable laptop is like Lenovo Thinkpad or Dell XPS or HP Elitebook, is Framework Laptop as durable as Thinkpad or XPS ?
Honestly from what i saw in their promotional video framework laptop are good kinda like Panasonic ToughBook but cheaper, but it's like magical think to some people because you can replace everything even the motherboard itself to whatever you like as long it's compatible with your laptop case
Even Panasonic ToughBook can't change everything, you can only swap it with another modules

A pro is same as an air but with a fan so its not throttled.

Also these drain battery so unless integrated by apple its useless

They have $999 monitor stand so its very standard Apple ~~gouging~~ pricing.

[-] Overzeetop@kbin.social 19 points 11 months ago

Itemized invoice:

Fan $ 7
Design & overhead to incorporate fan into design $ 13
Value of increased performance, as judged by the accounting department $480

[-] Rootiest@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

Cost of accounting department analysis: $50

So, no you actually save $30 getting a Pro!
