I actually installed the reddit app (Android) but it really was shitty so I uninstalled it.
long time lurker < 10 posts reporting in
Connect for Lemmy is my favorite app so far. I miss some of the really niche subs, and tried making a few here, but it's hard to transition from being a lurker to a poster and contributing member!
So glad I had the push to get off reddit, so nice here, and its always nice to start over with a fresh slate, hopefully I will be here for another 7 years
Using wefwef right now.
Thing I find interesting so far is that usernames are subtly different, like they aren’t trying to fill or replace characters because the username they actually wanted was taken.
Welcome! I’m on Memmy for iOS myself and it’s pretty solid so far! Really need to checkout wefwef. I adore Apollo and was really sad about it, but seeing so many redditors flooding to here has softened the blow.
Learned about wefwef 30min ago and love it already. Now Lemmy is an actual alternative to Reddit for me.
I'm using connect for lemmy and it's going good so far. I started reading more about a month ago to try to cut the addiction of reddit.
I've been reading Dracula and Frankenstein and both have been great. I'm reading dracula through Dracula daily, but doing my best to read most of it on soft cover. Frekensiten has been fantastic and I'm almost done. Couldn't recommended it more. There's no modern adaptation that does it justice.
Long story short, it sucks reddit is gone and my addiction to it is real, but lemmy and books specifically has been a good substitute
using connect rn, it's pretty good looking but a bit buggy, i guess i'm waiting for updates!
So far jerboa for android is really great! Gonna switch to sync for Lemmy as soon as it's out though, gonna make this place feel like home :)
I already don't miss it, will take a few weeks to break the muscle memory of opening a reddit tab every time I'm bored for more than 2 seconds
sidenote, has anyone been able to get dark mode to stick, or is that broken for now?
I am finding myself absentmindedly clicking my Apollo icon every hour. I’m happy to say screw Reddit for years and years of bucking user preferences and accessible 3rd party apps, but this is definitely an unfortunate transition to leave behind all the many years of content and critical mass of activity Reddit has. I’m still having to use the browser version to access subreddits related to school admissions stuff because there’s extremely valuable content I just can’t get elsewhere yet.
I just hope something pushes another big wave of users off of the platform soon and keeps the momentum going. Knowing Reddit admins it’s only a matter of time.
I am using Connect and wefwef. So far doing great.
My community has not moved to Lemmy so kinda lost here. I will just check around and see what sticks because I refuse to contribute to that fuckspez site.
This is working! I never expected I’ll ever use an app like apollo in the near future but here we are. And the community here is great too! Rooting for you Lemmy!
Honestly, I've been staying off of reddit and all social media a lot for the past year. It's been good for me. I've been slowly getting back into a few select forums. I like Lemmy a lot more than I've like any kind of social media in a long time. I hope it's sustainable.
Honestly, it reminds me a bit of reddit pre-digg migration. I'm kind of enjoying it. Right now, I'm using connect for my mobile access. I also don't hate the separation that the federated servers are falling into. It seems like moderation might be a bit of a PITA but I don't have any experience to back that up.
Doing fantastic. People are slowly posting content. The platform slows down due to spike in users but it gets better little by little. I like seeing content from other instances although you can't really reply to posts. It is great as a place to discover content, one day at a time i guess. I will not be using reddit in the foreseeable future though.
It's tough, I'll be honest. I can't completely wrap my head around lemmy, I'm confused about seeing communities I never subrscibed to (and some I wish I didn't have to see), and can't fully understand how it works. It also just.. doesn't have the same things I used to follow, or at least I can't get them to show up. I'm struggling, and honestly don't know what to do with all that empty time. I guess it really was an addiction.
I was early to leave. I’ve yet to delete my Reddit account since I honestly don’t want to put traffic there. But my account is dead. This actually is pretty nice given I was also crashing on Apollo. Dearly missed
