Everyone is heated in these comments but I want to do this. Not writing or voice acting. But a 2D game with text bubbles. You could ask an NPC where another NPC is and they could tell you. You could get crazier, you could also ask the old wizard about the whereabouts of this ancient magic item and he could tell you unscripted. I just thought it would be a cool way to make something feel more immersive but it is also already ruined by capitalism.

That's a funny way of saying "Save us a lot of money"

NPCs are already powered by AI.

Anyone who thinks this sounds "fun" hasn't gone through the steps to realize that AI being involved means no offline gameplay.

If a game has a valid reason to be online, that isn't inherently a bad thing. The complaint is with games that need not be, but are.

As if development companies need any reason to push online-only and live service game models. Single player, offline games are becoming more rare and AI could be a nail in the coffin.

Of course a C level wants AI, that’s what the current tech gold rush is. Nothing more than that.

Remember seeing a Skyrim mod that pretty much implements this idea (in a sort of rough way). IE you can talk to the npcs but the dialogue doesn’t really have any impact on gameplay/quests etc.

Really hope to see some games designed around this premise, could be very immersive if done well.
