"a vasectomy”? Like more than once‽
Vasectomies can actually "grow back". So yeah..." a vasectomy".
Why the fuck is that person not wearing their mask correctly?
To allow dribbles of snot to fall upon the patient's open surgical area unencumbered! Jesus, read a book!
Oh, of course! How silly of me.
It builds character
Probably because it's fake
Because surgeons are the absolute worse when it comes to sterile technique and OR safety.
Probably murican and the fully sedated option wasn't covered on their insurance.
"Are you sure you don't want to be under?"
"If it isn't covered, no. Figure it out."
"But the operation is 6 hours--"
"So like a regular day after work? I'll just scroll."
Long ago, I read about someone who used meditation to keep their attention away from the pain of having a root canal. Apparently, they only started feeling some 'discomfort' towards the end.
Unfortunately, I can't find the original source. And there are, of course, a slew of YouTube videos and what-have-you offering 'meditation for root canal' bullshit nowadays. I won't click on them, because I don't want my algorithm to be filled with 'Hey, root canal-lover! We've got hundreds of root canal videos for you to explore! But first, make sure to like and subscribe, and hit that notification bell! Now, open wide, and let's get into it!"
Sometimes full sedation is too risky, or at least not worth it for factors other than cost
True, there's always a risk that you don't wake up from full sedation. For most surgery you'll also be out of the hospital quicker if you take the epidural.
if you take the epidural
Doesn't that have like a pretty damn high chance of long term back pain? Because that's what I've heard from my ex (who's had it twice and claims it messed up her back, but also she just likes not working so she uses anything she can to get sick leave twice or thrice a month) as well as someone who was at the time studying to be a midwife (so a significantly more credible source).
And sometimes you're somewhere along the timestream where anesthetic hasn't been invented yet.
In the US though, it's definitely not for the bbenefit of the patient.
Hi, American here who can't be fully sedated because it'd kill me. It took my doctor a hot minute to find a surgeon who could do what I needed under local anesthesia, because almost everyone did full sedation for that procedure.
If it's a c-section they don't sedate the mother if at all possible, because it can sedate the baby too. It takes them a lot longer to recover from, and increases risk a fair bit.
How are they taking the photo?
Anesthesiologist probably took this one.
This is kinda like the setup when my wife had her Cesarian. Curtain up over the waist, wide awake, anesthesiologist right behind.
She explained that it felt like rummaging around inside a purse, except she was the purse.
2nd phone of course
1,5 h full body MRI and couldn’t do shit
