I knew mastadon was the largest, but I didn't realize how much larger it is. Mastadon is 78% of the fediverse users, while lemmy is third place at 3.3%. Misskey is second place with roughly double lemmy's users. Looks like it's a jp only thing.

That make me wonder... Does anyone know if Firefish/Calckey is counted under "Misskey" or "other?" (Firefish is a fork of Misskey)

Edit: After drilling down a bit I think it's counted as "other"

I think most of the stats are deceiving. In my opinion, most of the actual activity or users read, and comment happens on Lemmy, as opposed to mastodon where you mostly just have observers.

You may want to browse microblog tab on /kbin (which shows Mastodon, Misskey, etc. toots/tweets/notes/whatever there) to make an opinion for yourself.
Individual magazines have their own microblog sections (like photography)

What happened in the 4th quarter of 2022? Huge increase.

I think its great they are promoting Lemmy but I think the notes are unneeded. Tell people Lemmy is great, give them a recommended instance to sign up on, and stop selling. They can learn about the rest after theyve gotten their lemmylegs underneath them.

Give them 5 extra paragraphs of caveats and people will think they are more confused than they are. I ended up on squabbles for two months after the reddit exodus because everytime Lemmy was brought up it was with a massive text wall or that one infocomic. Its free, theres no ads, and no one person owns it - thats really all you need to know to get started.

I think the first note was fine. It's definitely going to be a spot of confusion for a lot of people. I agree that the rest were largely unnecessary though.

Hehe, "lemmylegs". That's kinda cute :D

Yay! Love to see Lemmy promoted.

Somewhat related: do we have a more up-to-date mapping between reddit <-> lemmy ?

sub.rehab is not accepting new links, redditmigration is recommending some instances that have been abandoned or closed, etc. I have now over 4000 subreddits at https://portal.alien.top and only mapped ~150 of them. If none of these mapping projects are going to be maintained, perhaps I should a similar functionality to fediverser itself?

Great news!

I feel like the main missing detail is defederation but I also feel like that would confuse people not familiar with how federation works.

just more of reddit shooting off its own dick for that sweet sweet IPO
