Time to harvest the garlic (crazypeople.online)

Garlic patch before lol:

Garlic patch after:

Our soil is... difficult. That's why this land had a house on it, not a farm lol. Still, plenty of life in the soil, we would just like to make it a bit fluffier. Until then I will free all the worms from the garlic tendrils.

The spoils:

These are all from garlic harvested last year, which was a bad year due to leek moths. We have since rotated location and have no evidence of the pest in this crop. Yay!

Hopefully that means we can build our numbers up again.

I brought them inside to dry a bit, then I will brush off the dirt and hang them to cure. The largest bulbs will be put aside to plant in October and the rest will be enjoyed.

Sadly my health has been bad this year (as evidenced by the state of the bed LMAO) so they are just going in the hanging weed drying racks.

I will return stronger and braidier in the future.

I was not expecting that image. I only know the scene because of Loading Ready Run having Watch + Play which is also called Garbage Day and I'm rambling.

I love garlic though! So much!

I've got terminal brain rot from growing up on the internet so it was playing over and over in my head as I sat on my little foldable garden stool lovingly brushing away the worms from the heads ๐Ÿ˜…

Nicely done! I'm very excited for my first garlic planting this fall

Garlic is such a fun, hands off crop. My spouse makes scape salt each year from the scapes (blends the scapes, mixes with kosher salt and then puts in the dehydrator to dry) which even makes the chore of cutting off the scapes something to look forward to.

What a great idea, I've heard a few strategies for dealing with the scapes but that one is the most interesting!

We love our scape fried rice and pickled scapes, but my goodness I have never thought to make salt! We'll be giving this a try next year for sure, thanks for the rec!
