I’m looking for good tools to get AI summaries of YouTube videos preferably open source solutions that I can self-host or at least trust with my privacy.

AI-related discussions and AI-involved promotional posts have additional requirements for tagging, as noted in Rule 7 and the AI & Promotional Post Expanded Rules post, and find example disclosures here.

[AIT] is required for any discussion with an AI topic, such as this one. Please update your title.

Never got a reponse so I just apply a workaround everyday

I feel that. It's a constant detour.

Send them to your manufacturer.

Hook up the TikTok repos and you'll get downgrades every 20 seconds.

Just forget about the videos you want to summarize and (optionally) eat a cheeseburger instead. I came up with this solution myself. It works instantly, with 0 dependencies, and has a 0% fail rate. It is my intellectual property though, so please pay me $19.99 per day until you get tired of not summarizing youtube videos. Cheeseburgers are not included, btw.

I've used Fabric to summarize the transcriptions. I believe it works with Ollama and local models.

I use yt-dlp to download the audio from a YouTube video and then use MacWhisper to transcribe, and summarize the audio. Not sure what a windows or linux equivalent of MacWhisper would be

[-] yo6271@lemmy.myserv.one 1 points 2 weeks ago

thank you, do you do this manually or do you use a script?

[-] a_fancy_kiwi@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I do it so infrequently that I just do it manually. Sometimes my friends send too many YouTube links in our group chat. I care enough to respond to them but not enough to watch them all if it’s going to take up a good chunk of my day to do so.

Kagi Summarizer (not FOSS, though).
