Seems highly unlikely that the guy can make a road-legal truck in his garage for sale, but best of luck to him.

[-] Blonohibo@lemmy.zip 4 points 6 hours ago

He's been talking about it for years and from what I've seen has never shown a single thing. He seems to jump around between different vaguely related side hustles.

[-] lps2@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 hours ago

I think it's a bit the other way around. The "side hustles" ARE his main gig and how he raised the money to buy the warehouse. The car gig is the dream gig he wants and is working toward and is hoping social media can get him there.

[-] Blonohibo@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 hours ago

I mean, cool. But has he actually shown anything? So far I've just seen well edited videos and nothing of substance other than owning a warehouse. 🤷

[-] Lenggo@lemmy.world 6 points 11 hours ago

I've watched a bunch of his videos before. He has an old abandoned car factory with a ton of equipment. No idea how any of the building maintenance has been paid for since they were in rough shape but would be cool to see it in action. Not sure YouTube ad dollars and patreon will carry him all the way there though

I think that the Cybertruck is proof that anyone who knows how to use a welding torch can create a road legal vehicle in the US

[-] umbrella@lemmy.ml 5 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

the cybertruck was made by a very rich pedo though. those are above the rules.

[-] Marn@lemmy.dbzer0.com 32 points 18 hours ago

He explained they will be selling as a kit not a complete car. most states have a 'kit car' registration option for things like custom tube chassis cars. Would a dealership be able to sell them new and fully built? Almost certainly not.

[-] artyom@piefed.social 6 points 18 hours ago

Ah, I must have missed that. Thanks for that extra bit of context.

[-] BreakerSwitch@lemmy.world 9 points 18 hours ago

Not to mention, at the end of the video he says he's in need of specialists of basically every kind needed for the project. I have the same level of capability to complete this project, though the video's popularity speaks to the demand for it

Trump 3 will introduce sweeping deregulation of automobiles.

[-] FoxAlive@lemmy.zip 1 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Would more likely be a forceful regulation of cars.

More likely we would be trying to push out imported cars by pushing some kind of "american saftey" regulation. Maybe claiming that the imported cars have Chinese spyware in them (but the spyware in our cars is cool), or by saying that they are trying to flood the market with cheap unsafe garbage cars so we need to tarrif them even more to save our domestic car market.

All while we forcefully regulated in more computers that make the roads even more unsafe. No one can turn their god damn neck anymore because of those stupid blind spot detectors and lane assist just means you can text while driving now. Oh and every car needs to collect more data than your phone can do legally. Bullshit computers won't let you change the MOTOR for your windshield because the part is Vin locked so you have to spend 500 dollars on just the motor before the technician who is the only person allowed to work on your car, charges you 2.5 grand in labor. All that for a fix that uses to cost 20 dollars at a pick and pull.

Another route we can go is because cars have so many cameras the cars now have to have some American made operating system forced into them for "national security" which Honda, KIA, etc will all have to scramble to get working and it will be a disastrous mess that bricks cars, and causes a lot of issues.

In no way shape or form are cars going to become cool again and become deregulated. If anything gets deregulated its the consumer protections for data collection. Cars are on track to be this thing you are not allowed to own, but like a autonomous taxi that you indefinitely rent, and have no control or ownership over. It will be a narc and report and record everything you do. Its like public transport, but you have to pay the price for the whole car, and pay a monthly subscription for it on top of paying for the matience (that only the OEM can do at a $250 a hr labor charge).

I can only wish cars could become more degregulated. Im still bittered we bailed out the automotive industry all for them to keep fucking us in the ass with shittier bigger trucks that break down more often and we have to pay off for two to three presidential terms. Fucking China has the equivalent of a Tesla for 16k, and in the united States I can buy a Ford bronco for 36 months at 450 dollars a month.

[-] artyom@piefed.social 1 points 6 hours ago

Maybe claiming that the imported cars have Chinese spyware in them (but the spyware in our cars is cool)

I mean exporting that data to a nefarious authoritarian foreign nation seems much worse than keeping it local. Not that any of it is "good".

[-] FoxAlive@lemmy.zip 1 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

I classify anything thing that's not foss as malware/spyware, and even then I cant even fully trust that.

If you really want to go down the rabbit hole the only thing that will end up making sense is temple OS. But no one really cares that much about privacy to be that inconvienced.

It was more to point out that its kind of hypocritical because its not like we aren't doing the same thing. If anything I see the US goverment as a more of a threat because everything they do is directly effecting me. With China I cant be certain and can only blindly speculate what bad stuff is happening. I don't directly see how I'm getting fucked so theres some willful ignorance I enjoy having occasionally. Its not like here how they use the cars meta data to make your insurance rates go up, or deny you coverage in a crash because they can point at a metric. Theres no face to the evil.

[-] artyom@piefed.social 1 points 6 hours ago

It's not hypocritical. One is local and the other is foreign.

[-] FoxAlive@lemmy.zip 1 points 6 hours ago

Its just the way you keep pushing this issue implies that because the forgien one is bad, we should justify the local one being bad.

If anything I support the forgien one more because you know I expect them to be bad guys. If these entities where people how would you feel with them sleeping with your wife? The "foreigner Chinese bloke" would probably sting when you found out, but it would be nothing in comparison when your good Christian church leader Mr ford does it. Even worse the church leader will gas light you about it not happening, while continuing to double down and bring other guys over to fuck your wife. And he can only do this because hes local.

[-] artyom@piefed.social 1 points 6 hours ago

the way you keep pushing this issue implies that because the forgien one is bad, we should justify the local one being bad.

It implies no such thing. Any such interpretation can be attributed to your imagination. What it means is simply that one is worse than the other.

If anything I support the forgien one more because you know I expect them to be bad guys.

That makes absolutely no sense.

Ahh so im talking to a Vulcan and I'm not allowed to go on my creative writting tangents. Also you talk like a debate bro I'm going to take your arguments you are trying to make at face value.

Both are malware, dont care in classifying which one is "worse" when primarilly I only care about the ones who have direct reach and control over my life and how I have to make decisions.

Our spyware is worse because I have to live directly with it and those are the people forcing computers into cars that we can no longer afford. Tech bros, and data companies are ruining cars. In my mind that's much worse than a invisible threat that isn't even allowed to operate here yet just due to the import fees alone. Fuck GM, fuck ford, fuck all them they should of never got bailed out.

[-] artyom@piefed.social 1 points 5 hours ago

Ahh so im talking to a Vulcan and I’m not allowed to go on my creative writting tangent.

You can go on all the tangents you want, but don't expect no one to correct your factual inaccuracies unless you specifically label it as fiction. Are your statements fictional entertainment?

dont care in classifying which one is “worse”

You literally just did that in your previous reply...

In my mind that’s much worse than a invisible threat that isn’t even allowed to operate here yet

It's not at all invisible. China is notorious for digital attacks on all kinds of US infrastructure. Along with Russia and North Korea. Basically most powerful authoritarian nations.

They aren't allowed to operate here due to the potential threats that I mentioned.

[-] FoxAlive@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

They have the same fears of our tech too, Tesla isnt allowed to have their vehicles in many parts of China due to all its cameras and pings back to the US. All of our software surpremacy is just one super backdoor to the worlds information. Every other country desperately wants to stop that, besides our 5 eyes allies and Israel.

And sure I did classify what was worse but maybe my wording was a little bad and I'm failing to get my message across. All are bad, we are both pretty much evil countries that abuse human rights. One being forgien, and one being local doesnt change that.

What changes is one is directly effecting me and ruling over me. That aspect of it is worse.

[-] artyom@piefed.social 1 points 5 hours ago

They have the same fears of our tech too

Which makes sense, because the exact same concept applies: local vs. foreign

One being forgien, and one being local doesnt change that.

It absolutely does, from the perspective of the government, who makes the laws.

[-] FoxAlive@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

Well I am failing to understand where I am not breaking through with you and feel like you keep getting caught up on small symantics that act more as gatch'yas more than anything. I typed up a response but after re-reading our messages I kind of just repeat myself, and I don't think either of us are going to really move forward.

Any other questions, concerns or points you would like to make?

[-] justaman123@lemmy.world 4 points 16 hours ago

Somehow it still won't allow byd electric cars despite them being able to go a 1000 miles on a single charge and it taking less time to recharge than it does now by then

[-] jerkface@lemmy.ca 2 points 11 hours ago

If it won't you can be sure it's because that sector didn't pay their bribes.

[-] affenlehrer@feddit.org 14 points 22 hours ago

Sounds like imperial measurements and parts:(

[-] jerkface@lemmy.ca 4 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

Why wouldn't you want your open-source user serviceable vehicle to use parts available within your continent??? Seriously, what are you trying to even say

[-] JillyB@beehaw.org 7 points 12 hours ago

I used to work in manufacturing in the auto industry. Everything is already metric in the US. People working on US made cars have the privilege of losing a 10mm socket just like the rest of the world.

[-] lengau@midwest.social 24 points 18 hours ago

Even the American car industry widely uses metric parts. These parts are easily available not just around the world, but in the US as well.

[-] artyom@piefed.social 7 points 20 hours ago

Can we get an open source American compact coupé?

[-] Jimbabwe@lemmy.world 9 points 22 hours ago

Kinda wanted to watch that, but had stop after the unskippable car ad (lol) a few minutes in

[-] jerkface@lemmy.ca 20 points 19 hours ago

If you're not blocking ads you're a class traitor

[-] kuiskaaja@lemmy.ml 10 points 16 hours ago

yes, denying google ad revenue is good.

watching on freetube or pipepipe/freepipe is even better, as they don't get your data

[-] ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net 4 points 20 hours ago

On a platform that doesn't allow ad-blockers, I'm guessing?
