Europeans: out of office until October. 🚬🍺
Jokes aside tho, it's mandatory at my job to take a vacation for at least two weeks at least once a year, and managers can get in trouble if someone doesn't take a vacation in a long time.

In America, we have to request dying. Unless you have approval from your management, you're not allowed to die. We must appease the shareholders at any cost. We live for the capitalists!!! Hurrah! Greatest nation on earth
I may get 4 to 5 weeks off for the year, but it is absolutely taboo to try and take 2 of those at the same time. The amount of guilt you get even requesting it is all you need to know about our current state. The only exceptions i have had fot this was when i got married and had each kid. Besides that i have not had more than 1 week off at one time since i was 15 and im in my 40s now.
I'm in the US and I only have to take 5 consecutive business days off once a year (not clear if it's just a security thing or a law for the industry I work in), but my workplace absolutely has people take more than a week at a time. Sounds like you work in a rough industry, sorry.
Become an audio engineer, you will get a few months off in the summer when everyone stops doing shows
how would one get started in something like that
EDIT oh you mean like, the sound guy at a concert?
Bruh you can literally do this at any kind of seasonal work.
The thing is you aren't getting paid for that time either...
Correct, but I actually do a mix of live music and corporate events. Typically the busy seasons go with the school schedule when everyone is working and not on vacation
I was confused too. The word engineer sounds like… something different, but I think that’s what the OP meant.
I’m sure it’s technically challenging and I don’t have the know-how to do it, but the proliferation of the word engineer in all sorts of job titles kind of diminishes the value of the actual effort, time and skill it takes to become an engineer.
Also, what is wrong with the job title of sound technician? It feels like all the important-sounding job descriptions are just a trick for companies to make you feel prouder about your job so they can make you work more and pay you less.
You could refer to me as a sound tech, but I do a whole lot more than just press buttons on a mixer. My job includes designing speaker systems for live events. If youve ever seen those big stacks of speakers at a concert, those are setup according to an engineers specifications
My kids keep asking why I have to go to work when they have summer off. Its harder cause their mom is a teacher and has the summer off.
Once I began working for a school district, I never looked back.
Poor you, I've got six weeks holiday because I asked for two weeks unpaid.
You get that back when you get laid off
I know a few married teacher couples who take months-long vacations in the summer.
3 months! That's nuts. No wonder Americans are behind in education, you're never at school!
How many school days do the schools where you live have in a year?
Iirc summer break was for rich kids families to take vacation.
It's called "unemployment"
Eh, but you're still matriculated during summer break. Unemployment is just unemployment.
Very normal for folks out of work to go back to school and pick up another degree.
