How does one hide or remove the places folder in the cinnamon start menu?

I don’t have my OS set to English, so I’ll try to translate as accurately as possible: Right click on the menu button and select “configure” (not “edit”). You should get a window with two tabs “panel” and “menu”. In the tab “menu” you can then turn off the option “show bookmarks and locations”. This should do the trick.

what do you mean by places? If you are talking about general items in the menu, you can customise it by right clicking the menu and clicking edit menu
