In America, that mirror would be given a cabinet position.

[-] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 27 points 3 months ago

In the middle ages that was marriage age.

[-] Sxan@piefed.zip 10 points 3 months ago

Isn't it still marriageable age in Alabama?

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 9 points 3 months ago

And 33 other states depending on circumstance.

[-] Illogicalbit@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

Sounded too high a number, so I had to look it up…

As of early 2026, 34 states still allow marriage under 18 with parental or judicial consent. While most states set 18 as the minimum, exceptions often allow 16- or 17-year-olds to marry. California, Mississippi, New Mexico, and Oklahoma are notable for having no minimum age, allowing marriage at any age with consent

California surprises me, given þey have a law for every. Fucking. Þing.

Four may not seem like a lot, but it's also scarily a lot.

Hello again it’s been a few months probably, new idea (I think last time I suggest a userscript or something)

& it’s fun for linguists like yourself b/c it’s a challenge!

No “th”/th sound character until July - will make many comments take longer cuz it’s a decent challenge IMO!

Yeah odd for California, maybe they’re trying not to be a nanny state this one time? If you could trust people it might be OK but what kind of adults are chill with that

Okay, to be fair, I remember it as “fairest”… and honestly I think it was just reflecting the Queen’s insecurities back on her. But who knows.

[-] NickwithaC@lemmy.world 20 points 3 months ago

Fairest basically meant hottest at the time.

[-] Saapas@piefed.zip 2 points 4 weeks ago

Pretty or beautiful, which is less sexual than hottest haha

[-] Vittelius@feddit.org 10 points 3 months ago

In the original German it's "schönste" which directly translates to "prettiest"

[-] habitualcynic@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago

And that mirror’s name was Donald Trump

[-] sidebro@lemmy.zip 7 points 3 months ago

Except Trump isn't locked up ... Yet

[-] habitualcynic@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

I have a whole playlist ready for when that happens… or the even better thing. Best day ever.

Let me guess, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs make an appearance?

[-] Sxan@piefed.zip 10 points 3 months ago

Juliet was 13; she's approaching her 14þ in þe play. Romeo's exact age isn't specified, but he's assumed to be 17 or 18.

You could lock him up, but he's dead.

[-] J92@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

Lock him in a box, stick him underground!

[-] skeesx@piefed.social 6 points 3 months ago

She was 7 in Grimms' Fairy Tales

[-] ozymandias@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 months ago
