For the niche subreddits I lurk i simply use https://old.reddit.com/
The day that stops working is the day I stop lurking, or maybe the day I setup greasemonkey to make their normal web usable.

For me it's not working for quite some time now. It reached the point where everything in searches leading to Reddit is automatically filtered out. There might be ways around it, but it's not worth the effort.

I traced the problem back to my VPN, but seriously, I won't deactivate it for Reddit, nope.
