is anything ever.... high key?

or are things only ever low-key?

Me, GenX-er, having lived through the 80s, later the 2000s and now the 2020s:

"First time?"

Small consolidation:
If that forms a pattern and we extrapolate it, the 2030s will be nice again.

Can't wait to see how irreversible climate change and mass extinction of species is going to start swinging the other way.

Having survived the same decades, I feel you.

But also - it's worse this time. But on the flip side, the swing back in the early 2010s was way better than the swing backwards had in the 90s, so maybe the 30s can be great?

People bitch about the ratchet effect, but some of our social stuff has ratcheted the other direction and hard in the good year. In the 90s, a Democratic President passed a rule banning openly gay people from the military, but by 2015 a Conservative-majority Supreme Court legalized gay marriage nationwide.

But then it's swung even harder the other way now.

I always try to imagine: if my younger self had grown up in today's world, how would that have felt compared to then? And it's not a great vision. Millennials and younger, you guys got fucked over, and I think most of you know it. I get your anger and despair.

From a Gen-X - Sorry. I did try to do something about it (I feel I did anyway), but I know I didn't do enough. I thought it would get better.

l very much like to agree, although my glasses come with a slightly different regional tint than yours:

As a German, the swingback into the 90s is understandably perceived by me as the best historical plot twist to ever happen.
Going within 3 or 4 years from certain nuclear death and huge armies standing along a border dividing the country, to a sudden everything-is-possible future, with everybody coming to their senses and the then still young and optimistic internet "information age" fitting right in...

But nevertheless, l firmly believe that the 30s will be good!
