I don't watch his stuff much anymore, but one of the defining characteristics about Jack that I remember from back in the day was his absolute obsession with all things Bloodborne. I'm still on the fence about the "Youtuber film project" thing as a new fad, but this is one where at least I know the commitment to the source material is there.

Yeah, I'd rather have industry outsiders invest in movies and series rather than traditional studio execs.

So, they chose to make a shitty movie over a PC port?

[-] Syltti@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Anything to not make a PC port.

Never heard about this guy (apparently a youtuber as the comments suggest) and i don't give a fuck about it, why they can just make a remaster for PS5 and PC ?

P.S. The Bloodborne movie already exists and is called "Le Pacte des loups" (Brotherhood of the Wolf)

It is hilarious that Bloodborne is going to come to theaters before it comes to PC.

Hilarious wasn't the word i would use...

I'm not saying that Miyazaki got his entire inspiration for Bloodbourne from a single sword made out of a spine.

But I'm not not saying that either.

How to make movies even worse, let YouTubers be producers

[-] tmyakal@infosec.pub 8 points 2 weeks ago

What makes YouTubers uniquely unqualified to produce studio films?

Not trying to antagonize, just genuinely curious. It seems to me that most YouTubers already have a lot of the experience you would look for in a producer in terms of budgeting, scheduling, and developing.

I would say the vast majority don't have that skillset, and that is way the stigma exists. Most youtubers are barely functioning, and often benefit from it by ascending to lolcow status. See every controversy ever.

This guy probably does have that skillset though, he's been around forever and I don't recall any controversy he's been a part of. Couldn't tell you what kind of movie he would make, I thought he only played video games.

I mean, Iron Lung was pretty good. As loathe as I am to consume anything from a Youtuber, the big movie studios have been pretty damn boring lately, so I guess it's worth giving them a shot at making movies. I think I'd prefer a unique IP to video game movies though

[-] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Dear Sony,

You can't "Iron Lung" this one. People are expecting FromSoft-level visuals.

It's animated, my guess is that either means Castlevania/Cyberpunk Edgerunners style 2D or maybe we'll get full 3D CGI to capture more of the atmosphere. Could be cool if was the quality of (for example) the Divinity trailer at last year's Game Awards. Full 3D like that seems less likely given what I assume the budget will be, but also Sony Animation really needs a major win after they made K-Pop Demon Hunters for Netflix and got basically none of the massive profits.

I was skeptical of 3D, but have you seen the Darth Maul show? It looks sick. On what looks like (to my eyes) a "less than Arcane" animation budget.

From what I've heard, game-engine based production is making 3D animation a whole lot cheaper, and that'd fit Bloodborne anyway.

Rated R for Rritating voice

I agree regarding his content, the few times I accidentally landed on his videos were met with instant regret. But he did a pretty good job as a VA in Dispatch!
