OpenStreetMap (I use organicmaps as a client) is not a viable alternative to me when there is no reviews and no information about departure times. Are there any alternatives that are open-source?

HereWeGo probably the best till now but not open-source.

Edit: wrong spelling of OpenStreetMap

It's called OpenStreetMap, the last character is P, it's singular.

For reviews there are multiple ongoing projects, none of them is mature enough for everyday use, they have a very few content:

There was a long and very interesting thread about this last year on the osm forum: https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/a-crowd-sourced-review-service-for-openstreetmap/136235/24

For timetables, it's an existing standard called GTFS, public transport companies should publish their timetables in this format. Transportr is a mature app which supports a lot of companies and cities: https://transportr.app/

CoMaps (a better fork of OrganicMaps) already have a lot of issues about integrating GTFS feeds, e.g. https://codeberg.org/comaps/comaps/issues/1651

Is GTFS short for Get The Fucking Schedule?

I want it to be true.

Why bot both?

I suggest a common theme among abbreviations: GetTheFuckingGTFO

sadly Transportr's European coverage is woeful according to their map :/

There was an update when they disabled a lot of cities for some reason. I remember I could use it in my city, but now it's not supported...

I haven't heard about Bimba before, @dafunkkk@lemmy.world recommended here, it seems it has better coverage.

Thank you it does show local stations, though from what I see their web journey planner is under construction :)

i use öffi for public transportation, maybe there's something similar for your region? or maybe your region is already included, check here: https://oeffi.schildbach.de/

Transitious might be one of the best Open Source Routing right now. Used for example in: https://cartes.app/

I did a test of it in Glasgow UK just now, and it didn't offer any public transport options. (And the UI tooltips are in French.)

this does work in Glasgow, neat!

Then apps using the service should also work! (Scroll down in their site)

Yeah that would be nice.

All alternatives here are pretty good. Recently there was another app released its called Transportia. https://github.com/Wafler1/transportia. It has nice UI, but could be a bit buggy

It's a map. It's not a place to collect reviews and realtime bus location. Remember maps, the paper ones?

Go some where else for those.

bro if you don't have anything useful to contribute, it is allowed to just not comment

[-] racketlauncher831@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago

Excuse me, bro, you were basically asking for a free meal. You basically want someone to spend money on promotion to get adoption rate high enough so that most places have reviews, and all those server cost to serve you hi-res pictures of those places. Oh, and why not throw in some street view cars?

Just wanted you to know that open source is not the same with free service. I, of course, don't have anything useful to you to contribute, because I don't have a million dollar to host a Google Map open source, no tracking alternative. I'm here to comment because your post, in principle, does not belong in this community.
