Okay, I am convinced that hobbits were rabbits in an early draft.

Long hairy feet
Timid
Unadventurous
Live in burrows underground
Steal vegetables from the neighbor's fields

So when that meme comes around about tying the ring to a rodent and carrying the rodent, I think "yeah that's exactly what Gandalf did"
