Users of Meta's AI smart glasses in Europe may be unknowingly sharing intimate video and sensitive financial information with moderators outside of the bloc, according to a report from Sweden's Svenska Dagbladet released last week. Employees in Kenya doing AI "annotation" told the journalists that they've seen people nude, using the toilet and engaging in sexual activity, along with credit card numbers and other sensitive information.

lol what kind of weird nerd is wearing smart glasses while having sex lmao

imagine you're over at some dudes house, about to get dicked down, and he comes out with nothing but these big fat blinking glasses on

[-] R00bot 69 points 5 months ago

I assume it's people making (hopefully consensual) POV videos.

[-] Luminous5481@anarchist.nexus 44 points 5 months ago

I know why they’re doing it. I just think it’s something only a doofus would do.

[-] zewm@lemmy.world 16 points 5 months ago

Or someone making OF content for example.

[-] R00bot 6 points 5 months ago

Agreed 👍

[-] drmoose@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

You think only a doofus would make POV sextape with their partner?

[-] ParadoxSeahorse@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago

with these, absolutely

[-] Luminous5481@anarchist.nexus 3 points 5 months ago

I think only a doofus would spend money on smart glasses from facebook

[-] Honytawk@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 5 months ago

Only a doofus would buy these glasses.

[-] skrlet13@feddit.cl 9 points 5 months ago

Yea, it sounds more confortable than wearing just a camera tied to yourself. POV porn is popular afaik

[-] 87Six@lemmy.zip 5 points 5 months ago

I feel like people using these glasses, instead of a good camera setup WHICH CAN COST LESS, which look more incognito, are likely not doing it consensually...

[-] Landless2029@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

It doesn't even need to be fancy or expensive

Believe it or not but not all sex starts with walking into the bahtroom, closing the door, disrobing, and hopping under the covers.

And while it likely applies less to the folk with camera glasses: If your vision is poor enough, it is always a tradeoff between them getting in the way and constantly squinting at your partner.

[-] TALL421@lemmy.world 22 points 5 months ago

Why do you have blankets in your bathroom

[-] Luminous5481@anarchist.nexus 8 points 5 months ago

omg can I just make fun of techbros wearing Facebook smart glasses without everyone doing an 18-point analysis on it?

[-] eager_eagle@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

I hate making out wearing glasses. That said, it is a porn category 🤷‍♂️

[-] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago

Glasses are like lingerie: They’re not for during, but before

[-] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 4 points 5 months ago

Really? I think it's way more natural than wearing a go pro.

Bedroom is a very reasonable realm for smart glasses if they aren't connected to the internet and are used for local recording.

The really weird part is wearing them in public and either recording people without their consent or even giving the clear impression of recording people without their consent. Wearing smart glasses in a public place is just an asshole move.

[-] imetators@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 months ago

According to recent events, some fucked up people are willing to be filmed like this. Here's link to the video if anyone is interested.

[-] OldQWERTYbastard@lemmy.world 61 points 5 months ago

Reading this headline all I can think is "Are y'all really surprised?"

[-] decapitae@sh.itjust.works 47 points 5 months ago

Why um, why do "smart" glasses have moderators? 🤔 Am I too far 'offline' to be asking? 😬

[-] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 18 points 5 months ago

Am I too far 'offline' to be asking?

This is surveillance phobic... and I'm down for it

[-] decapitae@sh.itjust.works 4 points 5 months ago

It may be time to train some llms to be anti llms... 🤔

[-] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 12 points 5 months ago

AI training. They have the tag the videos for model consumption.

[-] decapitae@sh.itjust.works 8 points 5 months ago

Egads! AI - the new asbestos. They're putting it in everything! B🤦

[-] Patrikvo@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 months ago

So, hypothetical, if I bought these, put a spare laptop in a closed, filled with the worst shock movies from the internet, and set these glasses so that they continuesly watch these videos. Would that be against the EULA?

[-] Rodancoci@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

You'd just be ruining a minimum wage worker's day and possibly traumatizing them. They typically outsource content annotation/moderation so no one important at Meta would be affected.

The better course of action is to continue to ridicule anyone you meet wearing these poorly-disguised surveillance instruments and raise awareness among your peers.

[-] Wispy2891@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

you're punishing those poor guys that are doing the job for $10/month. zucc doesn't care at all as they are already giving ptsd to thousands of moderators tasked of watching the reported gore videos

[-] recked_wralph@lemmy.world 23 points 5 months ago

I know that bandwidth isn’t hardly the finite resource that it used to be, but I still can’t get over how amazingly wasteful it is to continuously stream live video halfway around the world just so you can… ask your glasses to describe what’s in front of you?

[-] MrsDoyle@sh.itjust.works 4 points 5 months ago

It must be incredibly useful for blind people, but for everyone else it's a pure wank.

[-] ParadoxSeahorse@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago

POV wanks too, huh

[-] Lydon_Feen@lemmy.world 19 points 5 months ago

I mean... If you can't trust underpaid workers in Kenya's sense of privacy, who can you trust?

[-] MushuChupacabra@piefed.world 13 points 5 months ago

Nice to know that when you're standing at the urinal, some schmuck at Meta has seen your hog.

[-] dil@piefed.zip 7 points 5 months ago

Some idiots be sharing nsfw stuff when asked to upload stuff for the ai companies, they have hella warnings telling you that isnt the kind of content they want lol

[-] merdaverse@lemmy.zip 5 points 5 months ago

Sex while a corporation has access to your footage sounds like a kink for libertarians

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

Any camera/audio device with a wireless connection in your home is recording and storing your intimate moments.

[-] MurrayL@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

Finally, a way to indulge in exhibitionism without having to leave the house!

[-] TronBronson@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago
[-] nutsack@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 months ago

I would let them do this for $40
