My work requires that I use Microsoft Authenticator on my personal cell phone, to log in to my work account (very frustrating and unfair imo.. but that’s a different topic).

Has anyone been able to sideload these kinds of apps to a dumbphone? If so, how well does it work and what kind of dumbphone do you use? I currently have an iPhone and I’m becoming increasingly frustrated with Apple and want to get away from them.

Can't you just use an open source to app, like Aegis?

I must use Microsoft Authenticator, because of their IT restrictions. I tap on a notification and enter a two digit number. I wish I could just use Aegis

If you absolutely must have a smart phone, you can get a prepaid phone and just never get an account for it.

A moto G is $30 at Walmart. Set it up offline, skip every part that asks to create or log in to an account, connect to wifi to install Aurora Store, download whatever apps you need.

To add to this, I haven't used Microsoft authenticator specifically, but if its anything like the other 2 factor auth apps, they don't need internet to show the auth codes, its purely on-device only, once you've set it up.

Dumbphones

Smartphones dominate the world. But have we become smarter by using them?

This community is oriented for people who prefer either so-called "dumbphones" or "feature phones" in order to regain control of their life.

Here is a very simple set of rules to follow:

  1. Don't be rude to others.
  2. Don't harass or shame somebody for not being hardcore dumbphones fan. Everybody does it his own way.
  3. Keep this community simple: discussions must be dumbphone or smartphone-oriented, not about dogs or food.
