What are private image browsing alternatives to X/Insta? (lemmy.world)

I use X, Instagram, and Pinterest for thirst content. Sadly, the former two are unsafe (unsure about Pinterest but it is American and not FOSS so I’d assume the same). I’d really like to shift off these platforms, but I’m having trouble finding anything with a reliable search and algo that isn’t a dry well.

Hi! Hm I'm not sure what you mean by "thirst content". You mean NSFW?

Now, in my experience, the buckets of content in those platforms (Pinterest now being a slop haven) is hard to find in other places. I still left them, joined Mastodon (Xitter alternative), and use Startpage's image search instead of Pinterest.

An alternative to IG could be Pixelfed, though I haven't tried it.

Yeah I meant NSFW, though much of it that's on insta isn't necessarily nsfw

I gave pixelfed a try and it seems to either not have an algo or just be terrible. Startpage is alright but it gets repetitive fast if you frequent the same tags/search terms regularly, just like google.

There are a lot of NSFW communities here on Lemmy. Maybe that'd be a good alternative, though it probably depends on what you're looking for.
