Thanks, I always try to include them, but I'm never sure whether to keep it as alt text or put it as a caption, or how well alt text works on Lemmy.

Out of curiosity, why do you find them helpful if it's not for vision reasons? I apologise if that's too personal a question.

Because the joke and the context and who it is is not equally obvious for all people.

I wouldn't have recognised the guy, nor the context, nor did I know about the heisy or the damaged jewels. This is just a lot of interesting context without which the joke wouldn't have made any sense.

In such cases, explaining the joke actually makes it funnier. Thanks!

For this one, I guess I should have added that Pizza Express was his alibi for how he could not have met the person who accused him of rape. It was a disastrous interview in 2019 that I expect has come back to haunt him. https://archive.md/mPBis

As others already pointed out: the additional context information. So while I probably got the initial idea of the photo, adding the information that this crown was from the louvre heist, added a new layer of information. Now I could also laugh about the probably unintended joke that he tried to steal his royality back. It just makes the photo so much more interesting.

I was going for the idea of fallen royalty and involvement in crime, but I think we can't rule out the possibility he was also trying to steal his title back so I quite like your read too.
