I don't know who Pyrrhus is/was, or what they did, but they sound smart. So I'm agreeing with you...
Pyrrhus is the namesake for the concept of Pyrrhic victory, i.e. where while you technically won, it was at such a cost that you couldn't fathom trying it ever again. The linked article lists a number of historic examples.
