People keep talking about the 'rules' as though ICE could give a fuck about them. It's weird.

Despite ice in the headline, I'm glad this article expands about the problem at large. Women's health treatment is embarrassing across all facilities and it's way past time to be addressed.

A society may be judged upon how it treats its criminals.

That's standard practice, unfortunately, in detention facilities (prisons, jails, concentration camps, etc) across the country. It is a violation of the eighth amendment and in violation of federal law (only within the last decade), though enforcement and paths to address it by imprisoned women are limited. This is by design, of course. The prison (slave) system is hard baked for sex-based and racial violence. The majority of the population supports abhorrent treatment of prisoners for myriad reasons, if only due to the puritan ideal that there is no punishment too grotesque for violaters of even the most trivial of laws.
