May have been obvious to others, but I only caught this detail recently after using Linux for over 15 years.

Because Linux is written in C so its easy to shoot yourself in the foot.

[-] ZoteTheMighty@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 month ago

C doesn't stop users from shooting themselves in the foot. C++ has new footguns added to the standard for you each version!

[-] KSPAtlas@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 month ago

Rust has a safety lock to prevent you shooting yourself in the foot but you can switch it off if you really wanna shoot yourself in the foot that bad

This is genius and the only answer I will accept now.

[-] KernelTale@programming.dev 9 points 1 month ago

Can I get an explanation please?

[-] adaveinthelife@lemmy.ca 17 points 1 month ago

Penguins have webbed feet.

Because despite having a boot partition Tux appears to not wear shoes

[-] umbraroze@slrpnk.net 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Back when the original Tux drawing was made, we didn't have boot partitions. In LILO days, the bootloader barely fit in the MBR and the kernel was located and loaded with sheer magic incomprehensible to most mortals. So that's why Tux has no shoes.

That's where it shot itself in the foot.

It is not UNIX’s job to stop you from shooting your foot. If you so choose to do so, then it is UNIX’s job to deliver Mr. Bullet to Mr Foot in the most efficient way it knows.

[-] bus_factor@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago

He's resting his hand on his foot, because having two hover-hands in a photo looks awkward, and he doesn't have any pockets.

[-] MistressRemilia@lemmy.sdf.org 15 points 1 month ago

Poor dude has plantar fasciitis, he's trying to stretch it.

[-] gustofwind@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago

It looks better than if he wasn’t

[-] ColonelThirtyTwo@pawb.social 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

He is stimming, don't make fun of him

[-] neidu3@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 month ago

He's trying to cover it up because of you foot fetishist freaks on the internet

[-] MuckyWaffles@leminal.space 8 points 1 month ago

Better than Richard Stallman, that guy ate something off his foot in the middle of a conference. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I25UeVXrEHQ

I wanted to rewatch it, but youtube wants me to verify my age for some reason, and I'm not doing that.

[-] Digit@lemmy.wtf 3 points 1 month ago

Mandela effect's been Mandela effected to Mandildo?

When did that happen?

[-] recursivethinking@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

He definitely did. All the image search results have clearly been tampered with.

[-] MrShankles@reddthat.com 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

To prevent it from falling off: everything is holding on snot and ribbons in Linux.

[-] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 6 points 1 month ago

Sounds like a you problem.

[-] MrShankles@reddthat.com 3 points 1 month ago

Lol, edgy and super cool

[-] orenj@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 1 month ago

Tux's Gnome bias is showing

[-] thenikraj@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 month ago

Maybe to get a foothold in computing.

[-] meldrik@lemmy.wtf 5 points 1 month ago

That’s because he’s very serious about this year being the year of the Linux desktop.

[-] ErenOnizuka@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

What does the title mean?

"Leg hand foot italian?"

[-] unmagical@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 month ago

From left to right it's Tux's extremities as close as I could match them and then a question.

[-] Nyadia 2 points 1 month ago
[-] Digit@lemmy.wtf 1 points 1 month ago

Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • Don't come looking for advice, this is not the right community.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.

  • This is primarily an English-speaking community. 🇬🇧🇦🇺🇺🇸
  • Comments written in other languages are allowed.
  • The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
  • Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
  • 6. (NEW!) Regarding public figuresWe all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations.
  • Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
  • We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
  • Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed.
  •

Please report posts and comments that break these rules!

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.
