My best guess is that he thought it was a strong negotiation tactic, and the Daily Wire would come back with an even bigger offer.

It's funny, but mostly sad, that this guy has a panel where he offers people to change his mind. But he won't change his mind. He will never change his mind. It's just some trap to lure in people and for him to record some responses where he looks like a master debater and smart guy. It may as well just be called: You Can't Change My Mind.
Well yes, because rich people are clearly rich because they are fundamentally better people. The universe recognises this about them, which is why they're rich. And thus for a rich person to enrich themselves further — well, that's just justice.
Poor people are at the bottom for a reason. To give them money would be disrupting the natural order of things.
