Welll..AWS-US-EAST-1 only afflict that zone of north america

[-] lividweasel@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago

My understanding is that the zone handles lots of the core functions of AWS, such as authentication, which is why so much was affected by the recent outage

One of the most important functions is that it is the fallback management server. As well as the default server.

Then why i didn't had any problems here in europe? I wouldn't have noticed without everyone shouting it

Im in Europe (Germany) and i definitely noticed both the huge AWS outage that was not long ago and today’s Cloudflare drop….

Maybe you just weren’t dealing with any services that were hosted on AWS? It wasn’t the entire internet that was down

I am sure i dealed with services that used AWS, heck i even checked what services were in USA down because of AWS and they worked, so idk what to think about it

Well it’s the region where the infrastructure (servers) are physically located. Many services and websites aren’t going to pay to replicate their servers in all possible AWS regions. Big companies will do that. Smaller companies may only have their servers in one region. It’s cheaper. So if a service or site you use chose only that particular region for their server(s), you will not be able to access their service, regardless of where you are physically located.
