There are a bunch in my town and I'm debating taking a paintball gun or maybe a class 4 laser to them. Thinking the latter might fuck up the sensor but honestly not sure.
the problem with a laser is that while you can permanently ruin camera sensors quickly, powerful lasers risk hurting bystanders if it reflects weirdly and they don't have eye protection.
also what laser were you thinking of using? the most common lasers that are easy to obtain are the cheap Amazon ones that are only a few milliwatts. while they can destroy sensors, you have to hold them there for a while.
I'll check the brand when I'm home, but it wasn't a cheap purchase by any means. $500+ if I recall. Including multiple pairs of rated glasses to use with it since it can apparently blind in ~1s or less. It kind of looks like a long light saber handle and takes two (or three?) 18650 batteries.
I haven't used it in a long while because it kind of scares me.
You have a solid point on the reflection bit, I'd feel really bad if that happened. Maybe if I only did it at night when the area was closed and nobody else around...but still.

Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs) are AI-powered cameras that capture and analyze images of all passing vehicles, storing details like your car’s location, date, and time. They also capture your car’s make, model, color, and identifying features such as dents, roof racks, and bumper stickers, often turning these into searchable data points. These cameras collect data on millions of vehicles—regardless of whether the driver is suspected of a crime. While these systems can be useful for tracking stolen cars or wanted individuals, they are mostly used to track the movements of innocent people.
