Solar with batteries and stuff.
Pavers in the backyard.

I tend to do some things myself, so it's not just about money but also about time and energy.
Although, I guess, in a way that's still about money since I could hire it out, just that cost is prohibitive and we chose not to.
The quote for pavers was something like $65 per square foot, which is simply insane.
I'll do them myself eventually, but I'm procrastinating for now.

Otherwise, it's an old house so there's always something.
It's now fairly well insulated, which means one of the next projects is to put in an air exhanger. Sigh.
That's not that big of an expense, but there's been a few other big projects, so I've been procrastinating about that one too.

For pavers, it's the excavation and grading that gets you. For my second paver project, I paid someone just to do the digging for me and it was the best money I ever spent.

Induction stove is amazing, I love mine. Before we got rid of our gas stove and bought it we used to use a bench top induction cooker from aldi for $40 aud. We still use it for hotpot on the table at times but it was always much better than the gas cooker.

I second that. Got one and love it. Especially for making smash burgers, I do that on the porch now (no exhaust fan in the kitchen)

The ones from IKEA are fairly reasonably priced, at least where I live.

Insulated windows and better heating

Heating. I have an old hot hot air system that measures temperature in 'comfort levels' rather than temp and apparently it doesn't work with any smart thermostat systems...

How does it sense demand?

We have an older system here wired to an old thermostat that uses a bimetallic strip to click on/off.

Putting a shelly relay in parallel with it was trivial.

It has a thermostat with a strip that clicks but that doesn't seem to be the only way that it decides to do stuff. I don't want to keep it either way, not many people service it, its massive and takes up a ton of room in my kitchen, its loud and the heat isnt retained.

I would like to pay for a professional painter to paint my house inside and out as well as seal my roof tiles.

[-] ephrin@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

My roof needs to be replaced.

I don't need to, but my kitchen should really be remodeled. It's on the list. Also, I have some basement space that I should turn into livable space. Not sure which comes first.

The fan in the computer room, (only 3 bed rooms, one for the son, one for the computers one for the missus and i) the bearings flogged out it makes a horrible noise and drives me mad when it's on.

Also I looked inside the fuse box and it's scary looking and not up to regulations.

I truly am privileged enough to be able to say: nothing at all.

I'm considering getting a new door that would be more secure against breaking in - not that I've ever heard anyone have that problem - and fire.

It's not quite a question of having enough money though, I'm mostly just reluctant to start the process. Also, I have a door which works alright already, so it's not strictly speaking urgent.
