Deal! You stop shipping to the EU.

[-] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 87 points 6 days ago

We've created a world where corporations expect to treat with countries as sovereign nations in their own right. They already forced America to treat corporations as people. This is why you never give an inch.

There is absolutely zero chance they exit the EU region. The Shareholders would lynch the entire C-Suite. It would be like the Murder on the Orient Express.

It's getting REALLY tiresome the way every single statement Apple (Google, Meta...) ever make pretends to be standing up for the consumer when it's transparently not.

They've got so used to the US MAGA culture of naked lies, that they've forgotten that you're supposed to make them plausible.

[-] Sunshine@piefed.social 18 points 6 days ago

Theyโ€™re talking about their freedom to abuse the customers.

Apple hasn't innovated shit in years. They can take their ball and go home. Nobody will miss them and you can pretty much rest assured they'll come crawling back when it's clear they won't win. All they do anymore is piss and complain about being made to play nice with the other phones or that they don't get to keep more of the exploitative wealth they've amassed.

Edit: i take that back, they managed to convince people that they would pay $1000 for an ipad stand lol

But wait--there's more!!! Apple has made another tremendous advance in technology, and i wasn't even aware until i started poking around on their site: they have reinvented the wheel ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ only $700 for a set of 4 for your Mac Proโ„ข. The possibilities are endless, just read the description:

Put your Mac Pro on wheels with the Mac Pro Wheels Kit. The custom-designed stainless steel and rubber wheels make it easy to move your Mac Pro around, whether sliding it out from under your desk or across your studio.

Seriously!!! For $700 you too can move your computer ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿคฏโœจ๐Ÿ‘€

To be fair, I prefer apples form of innovation over most other tech companies. iPhones haven't got much flashier, just a bunch of incremental improvements. The battery lasts longer. It's a bit faster. The OS works with more third party apps and systems. Minor tweaks. They aren't exciting, but they're steady.

2 provisos: my newest iPhone is like, 5 years old. It does not have AI or any of the weird shit they've been pushing recently. And: it's my spare phone. Because lol fuck apple. I like their products but not as much as I like having a decent phone in my daily life

The only really significant Apple project in at least a decade IMO is Apple Silicon. Everything else has either been in limbo forever or is just a minor generational improvement of often questionable quality. Basically, it feels like finance and engineering took precedence over design shortly after Jobs died and everything has stagnated since.

I can't believe whybwe allow such inequality to have apple customers by a set a set of four wheals for half the minimum wage in most European countries.

[-] magnetichuman@fedia.io 40 points 6 days ago

'Apple said that under the DMA, โ€œinstead of competing by innovating, already successful companies are twisting the law to suit their own agendas"'

The call is coming from inside the house.

There should be penalties for, even pathetic ones, attempts at blackmailing the government/EU.

[-] WbrJr@lemmy.ml 6 points 6 days ago

Like blocking imports from them?

[-] freeman@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 days ago

Quite appropriate.

[-] HailSeitan@lemmy.world 20 points 6 days ago

Call their bluff

[-] masterspace@lemmy.ca 22 points 6 days ago

Lol go fuck yourselves apple.

[-] Confused_Emus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 6 days ago

Ha! Yeah, and Iโ€™m gonna ask my boss to cut my income by 25%. Bullshit.

[-] drmoose@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

What a ridiculous thing to say. We know, Europe knows, Apple knows - that they simply can't drop European market.

[-] FurryMemesAccount 15 points 6 days ago

Good riddance.

[-] njordomir@lemmy.world 14 points 6 days ago

Sounds like another one of those "gentle nudges" that has been pushing Europe's digital sovereignty roadmap forward. Not exactly a catastrophe. Apple needs to learn that they're not in charge. The citizens should be in charge.

[-] Dragonstaff@leminal.space 8 points 6 days ago

It's tough for American companies to understand this.

[-] Lanske@lemmy.world 14 points 6 days ago

I dare, double dare you Tim Apple!

[-] Wild_Mastic@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

That would be funny. Hope they stop so leopards can visits them. Also note, shipping, not selling

[-] bvoigtlaender@feddit.org 6 points 6 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Honestly, what kind of thread is that? People get pissed about it but nobody will move somewhere to get an iPhone. (at least i hope not) And the money still comes from alternative people will pivot to, its not like they take the demand with them.
