A lot of my German* was trained exactly like this - speaking with my cat. They're damn good listeners.

*her name being Siegfrieda is not a coincidence.

Laaaate reply, and completely upon a different angle, but, question-- do you have some interesting comic books 'en Portu?'

Like, there are so many great Spanish comics, but I hear so little about the excellence of neighborhood (Portugal) comic books.

Something feels godamn broken in that sense.
(bah, sorry if I'm bothering you)

No worries, you aren't bothering me!

Most comics I read are manga, so I don't know a lot about the ones in Portuguese; the exception is Maurício de Sousa's Turma da Mônica (Monica's Gang), as it's something I grew up reading. However the author is Brazilian (and markedly Paulista), and the target audience are kids so... probably not what you're looking for.

That said, I looked for recs across the internet, and found a few interesting ones:

Balada para Sophie (Ballad for Sophie) - from Filipe Melo and Juan Cavia. About a misanthrope pianist in the century XX, visited by a journalist who makes him tell her his through life history. The art style looks really polished and nice:

A Fórmula da Felicidade (The Equation of Happiness) - from Nuno Duarte and Osvaldo Medina. A mathematics prodigy finds an equation that grants everyone but himself happiness. The animal characters seem to evoke something of a fabula.

Estes Dias (These Days) - from Bernardo Majer. It's a half dozen slice of life stories, mostly about monotony and relationships.

Something feels godamn broken in that sense.

It's doubly weird, because not even here in Brazil people talk about them. I think they're mostly geared towards the local market.

Mate, mind if I make a post about what you just shared at my graphics novel project? It is:

Also, about underestimation (from your other comment)... I don't know how to answer it without two big walls of text (one regarding LatAm and another Iberia), but let's say it's politics.

Interesting. I'd love to hear more, although perhaps such follow-up would best make for an insightful comment upon the upcoming post?

Ugh, please give me an hour or two to sort some local &^!@% out, if you could. I just switched to a new Win11 machine and am having trouble getting my damn rent paid at the usual site. It's getting kind of nerve-wracking here, and... yeah. :S

Talk to you later, mate.

I don't mind it, mate - feel free to do it!

Phew, DONE!

I'm stepping out for a moment, but let me know about any corrections / clarifications I should make?

[-] lvxferre@mander.xyz 2 points 5 days ago

I'm already there :)

Thank you so much, and what an awesome reply. oO

Yeap, I chronically underestimate Brasil / Portu stuff, and I love being corrected, anyway.

Still, though-- WHY do we Westerners typically underestimate you all? (sorry, that's more of a Q upon myself, perhaps for later)
