Honestly it doesn't matter if ABC returns Kimmel and his show to air. The exercise (fascist politicians exerting their influence through the oligarchy to punish critical speech) has served its purpose (to be a chilling effect on anyone with the mind to speak truth to power).

It's a stern tug on the leash.

This is why independent media is so important, and we need a lot more of it.

[-] grue@lemmy.world 55 points 1 week ago

This is why the show coming back isn't enough; the execs who made the decision to comply with fascists need to themselves be ousted, at the bare minimum.

I think its the opposite from your take. The fascists got knocked down and now look weak. Other organizations that try to capitulate now see there's backlash that happens and should be more emboldened to reject the fascist demands.

I'll tug your leash.

Leash tugger.

[-] pet1t@lemmy.world 86 points 1 week ago

He could do the funniest thing and just start with a speech doubling down on everything he said plus take the whole situation and compare it to fascist/dictatorial leadership

one can dream

[-] AmidFuror@fedia.io 17 points 1 week ago

He usually pillories Trump, so it would be remarkable if he didn't go after him. Since there are no reports that he apologized to Kirk's family or had to donate money to TPUSA, I'm guessing he's coming back on his own terms here.

[-] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 week ago

He should absolutely turn up the anti-Trump rhetoric even more considering he has little to lose. He's already rich.

[-] wildncrazyguy138@fedia.io 10 points 1 week ago

If he did, he could be the next Zelenskyy.

[-] lennybird@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I appreciate Kimmel but I'm partial to Stewart taking that Zelenskyy title in terms of his actual capacity to lead and depth of knowledge. He pretty much singlehandedly bullied Republicans of Congress to pass legislation for first responders and veterans.

Anyone remember the Rally to Restore Sanity with Colbert / Stewart?

[-] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

I got one of those hats they were selling for the rally that said hate with the "E" xed out. It was my hat hat and I'm still upset I lost it.

I always liked watching Jon Stewart but he earned my respect when he went to bat for the 9/11 first responders who suffered illnesses related to their service. Browbeating and shaming Congress to their faces repeatedly, until they finally passed legislation to care for those people. He didn't do it because they were all on the same political "side" as him. He did it because they needed it and they earned it.

The man has more integrity than most of the people in D.C. and fucking balls of steel.

I wish, but I have a feeling that he be pretty neutered

[-] maximumbird@lemmy.world 44 points 1 week ago

They just want their Disney subs back.

Not happening for me. I will remain unsubscribed.

Fucking twats.

[-] Sundiata@lemmy.world 41 points 1 week ago

Less than a week after it was taken off the air under pressure from the Trump administration, Jimmy Kimmel Live! will return to late night on Tuesday, ABC parent company Disney confirmed.

Trump is going to have a heart attack.

[-] huquad@lemmy.ml 55 points 1 week ago

Dont do that. Don't give me hope

[-] alquicksilver@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago

Don't worry; even if he does, his deal with the devil will ensure he survives. I'm convinced it's the only reason the hamberders haven't done their job.

[-] tidderuuf@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

Careful, even suggesting how poor that orange turds health is could be seen as a threat according to the SS.

[-] Kirp123@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

The SS sure is a fitting acronym for them.

[-] Sanctus@lemmy.world 28 points 1 week ago

Too late, not coming back. I'll pull him up on Jellyfin if I feel like it.

[-] Geth@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 week ago

There's no way this can be categorized as world news.

[-] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 week ago

I agree it's iffy, but from comments elsewhere on Lemmy the boycott had gone international.

[-] pageflight@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

There's an entertaining (somewhat NSFW though mostly quoting Trump) European take on a MAGA revision to Disney classics.

[-] seathru@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 1 week ago

Now with Trump admin approved scripts!

[-] MushuChupacabra@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Neat.

I'll consider Disney to be on probation.

I'll decide on my spending habits after I see what they do for the next two fiscal quarters.

[-] frongt@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 week ago

It's Disney. They've never been a paragon of virtue. They've wielded the law as a club against their competition many times. They've had copyright law amended specifically so that Mickey Mouse doesn't fall into the public domain.

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Oh joy.

The rich comedian got his show back.

That's going to make a world of difference in my life personally. Awesome.

[-] Brkdncr@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

It was probably 200 normal people that also got to keep their jobs.

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Glad for that, certainly.

I'd be more glad if people like Jimmy Kimmel were willing to pay some fucking taxes.

[-] JoeKrogan@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Just because the share price is taking a hit. It is about money and nothing else.

[-] charade_you_are@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

Cool, I get to back to not watching late night shows and catching clips every few months on youtube. Glad he got his job back though and hasn't said anything apologetic.
