Finally a reasonable explanation why Padme stayed with that loser.

Not sure we ever fully understand the full extent of what the force does when it comes to enticing/manipulating others. Forcing your will onto another is the principle of a Jedi mind trick and nearly all Jedi can do it. Someone as strong with the force as Anakin could have been slowly manipulating her without ever really comprehending he did so. His subconscious wanted her as we know.

It may be one of the reasons why they aren't supposed to have serious ongoing romantic relationships.

Such abilities would be dangerous not only in romance relationships, but in any. And yet we see Jedi around all these Senators too. Maybe the Sith were onto something.

The sith seek the rule of 2 and forever holding power for themselves, the Jedi supposedely try to take a role where they do not rule, but provide protection and guidance for the galactic Republic. Both clearly a slippery slope. But yeah you get situations like Darth Bane jumping onto a rancor forcing his will onto it, enslaving it to do his bidding and riding it through a dense forest before just tossing it aside like a worthless tool when it is no longer of use to him. The idea that they wouldn't do the same to a person who can't protect themselves is pretty likely. We see them convince people to shoot others... I'm sure morals/ethics are out the window at that point

Waves hand. "You will slobber my knob."

Padme:"I will slobber your knob."

The dark side is strong with this one.

He was a brown Jedi...

Someone who is so passively influential would be great as mediators for things like trade disputes and hostile negotiations.

There were also Jedi/Sith that would essentially meditate and influence the moral off the armies, giving them confidence, limiting their fears.

Those guys would be great friends hostile negotiations as well haha.

Hence why I called him/her nerd as a joke :)

[-] tatann@lemmy.world 23 points 1 month ago

Hate to be that guy but wasn't she 16 when they started filming Episode 1 ? She looks like a kid in this picture

[-] bear 15 points 1 month ago

This image is from revenge of the Sith, principal photography took place from June 30, 2003, to September 17, 2003.

Portman was born June 9th 1981, so I think that makes her 22.

I'm no expert on Star Wars but it looks like Episode 1 (filming started in june 1997)

[-] bear 4 points 1 month ago

I think your right. That world make her 16.

[-] Rhaedas@fedia.io 14 points 1 month ago

Yes, depicting a 14 year old Padme Amidala.

I'm not up on Naboo politics, guess she had a good speech writer. She was the youngest ever elected (was her successor younger still?) Maybe it's the idea that the kids have a better idea of where things need to go than the adults.

[-] sundray@lemmus.org 6 points 1 month ago

Pro: Not yet made cynical by real-world politics, thus motivated by idealism when making laws.

Con: Won't put down their phone long enough to attend cabinet meetings.

[-] squaresinger@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

And again, the internet is sexualizing children.

[-] ekZepp@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Have you even heard of the movie Léon (1994)?

Our galactic citizens have requested more specific rules, so here are a few.

The general idea is, if you're looking here for rules, you're probably someone who doesn't need to have them spelled out. You're fine. But anyway:

  1. This is a community for Star Wars memes. This means typically screenshots of Star Wars media with some text or context that's meant to be funny and/or thoughtful. All SW media is welcome: movies, games, comic books, fanart... Other kinds of content, like video links or meta memes (about this community, or Lemmy), are fine as well, just keep it on topic.

  2. We are all friends here, and love (sometimes love to hate) Star Wars. Be nice to each other.

  3. As fans of fictional media, we can be passionate. If you very strongly disagree with something or someone, take a deep breath before reacting. Anger leads to the dark side!

  4. Everything in Star Wars has happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, and it's a rich universe of millions of words and millions of years of history. So current Earthly matters really shouldn't concern us here. In other words, leave politics, philosophies and convictions behind the door. This applies even if it's about something related to Star Wars.

  5. Original content is preferred. Reposts are fine, just please limit to a maximum of 3 per day, per citizen. It is recommended, but not required, to mark original memes as (OC) and reposts as (repost).

  6. Local mods are the Jedi council. They may take actions that are necessary to maintain peace and stability of the Republic, even beyond the rules outlined here. Follow their guidance.

  7. Regular rules of the Lemmy.world instance apply.
