But I thought they were the free-speech people? 🤔
Reform are arseholes.
But let's be clear. Freedom of speech. Is not an obligation to listen or provide a stage.
No one is required to accept unwanted opinions at a private event. As any conference is.
The removal of opinions is as much an act off speaking as allowing them. Be sure to listen to who any org rejects and judge them accordingly.
In a role-reversal - Reform protesters being forcibly and even violently removed from any other party conference - Farage would be crying everywhere he could about freedom of speech and censorship, he'd probably go running off to Trump to whine about it and Trump in turn would probably threaten more tariffs against us. Of course no-one is obligated to listen to speech they don't like, and no organisation is required to give speech they don't like a platform, my point is just the blatant hypocrisy of Temu Trump and his Tory Tribute Act
Yep he would. He would also be talking out of his arse. And know full well he was. He is intentionally miss applying "Freedom of Speech". To generate rebellion. Such false comparisons are very much how fascism leaders build the leadership role they require to implement such ideas.
Ensuring the truth about their statements' falsehood, are repeated as often as possible, is a very very important part of attempting to fight against their rise.
This is why Labours approach to the far right is exactly the wrong way to go. Not challenging the immigration lies etc reinforces his rise. Pretty sure the owners of much of the media know exactly what they are doing.
Worth noting, The UK gov has also very much attacked freedom of speech.
Assigning terrorism labels to non-terroristic activity. Purely to limit public free protest. Very much does count.
Given UK history on such laws. Would be interesting for PA supporters to arrange regulars speeches opposed to it from Hyde Park Speakers Corner.
Given, police have been banned from legally silencing such since the 1800s
has farage done his job as an mp once since the election? also i'm reminded of the fact that starmer pulled the labour candidate in clacton even though he had the best chance at beating farage.
Given he lives in America most the time and is overflowing with bribes, I don't think he has the constituents at heart.
UK Politics
General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.
Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
