I'm still very happy with AussieBB. Just a pleasure to deal with them on all fronts. Not sure how competitive they are, but I've used so many ISPs since the mid 90s, but this is the only one that has made me consistently happy.

The good news on cost is that NBN tiers are being massively improved from 14 Sept - without wholesale prices changing, so you might be happy with a lower plan than previously (see here: https://www.gadgetguy.com.au/nbn-faster-internet-speed-upgrade-september-2025-details/).

Aussie Broadband has a good reputation for customer service, but you do pay a little extra for it.

I've been really happy with Tangerine. A little cheaper than Aussie, and I'm able to get static IP without paying extra (handy for web hosting!). It's been a long time since I've done a speed test, but when I did, I was reliably getting slightly more than the advertised speed during peak hour.

edit: whoops. I'm in Brissy. I doubt it'll make a difference (I thought this post was in !australia or !austech or something like that), but thought you should know just in case it matters.

Aussie are terrific on service and support but not as competitive with cost.

Still the provider I recommend to family though

Buddy Telco is the AussieBB value brand. Same network for less price but no phone support, online only. You don't have an option to remove cg-nat but can get a static IP.

A good place to look are the whirlpool forums (not related to the washing machine manufacturer).

My experiences:

• AussieBB: reliable, phone support OK but mislead me one day at a client's place, not the cheapest. Public IP is sticky, only changed once during my tenure and that was because I was poking things on their online self-service system to try and diagnose a problem.
• Superloop: Was fine, but only stayed on them for a discounted 6 months. "Superspeed" temporary feature requires a new DHCP request & IP, boots your connection temporarily. Can't recall if my IP was sticky otherwise.
• Leaptel: Somehow they offerred $65/month for 12 months (not lockin) at 100MBit if I asked to be upgraded to fiber. Did that, still on it. IP is not sticky, if my router reboots (or if there is a midnight outage due to maintenance) then it DHCPs a new public address every time, which is quite annoying.

For all of these providers: they put you on CGNAT by default, you have to contact them to opt out and get a traditional public IP address. (If you don't know what this is then you probably don't have to care about it).

No ISP is good forever, history tells us they're good for a few years and then go downhill. You have to keep jumping.

I'm in Perth and my last 2 ISPs have been Pentanet and before that Node1. Had good experiences with both but I'm not really judging the cheapness, I've just been ordering the fastest domestic plan they have available.

I'm happy with leaptel for gaming.

Ping to Sydney and Singapore is my main priority.

I left Aussie a year or so back due to random spikes in ping to NSW based servers.

I have been with TPG for 20years and haven't had any issues for a long time. (used to know when they were advertising a good deal becasue speed would die for a couple of months). Speed has been reliable for years and no CGNAT to worry about. Support is off shore but rarely have to call them.
I was about to churn to Carbon Comms last month who were advertising $80 100/20, with static IP, on OZBargain. But when I called TPG they beat that to keep me loyal.
