As one of martial arts cinema’s best known directors overseas, Lo Wei was almost exclusively associated with the “realist” kung fu movie style of Golden Harvest led by Bruce Lee, then his not-so-successful run with Jackie Chan. However, Lo actually made his name in action cinema with Shaw Brothers, and before becoming fixated on trying to fill the shoes of Lee with mostly manly movies (who wouldn’t be after getting that level of success?) he showed quite opposite creative leanings.
