Costa Rica. Lovely country with lovely people. They do not have a national military; this was a deliberate action by their government after civil unrest decades ago.

[-] telavivgirlexpat@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

I don't know Spanish but Id love to learn :)

[-] floo@retrolemmy.com 14 points 4 days ago

It’s not a difficult language to learn, and you’ll be able to use it in a lot of places around the world. It’s definitely a language worth learning.

Highly considering it

[-] fodor@lemmy.zip 13 points 4 days ago

That depends what you wanna do and where you wanna live. If you're not sure, look for working holiday kinds of programs and try them on for size. It also depends what languages you speak, or want to speak.

[-] telavivgirlexpat@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Will try that :)

If you only speak English, perhaps The Netherlands? Lovely place, okay folk and overall cheap for the quality of life provided (compared to France and Belgium, for instance).

[-] telavivgirlexpat@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

I speak English and Hebrew, unfortunately dont know any languages other than English that are useful around the world.

[-] ViatorOmnium@piefed.social 6 points 4 days ago

In most of Europe, including almost every big city, you can survive with English, and learn the local language after you arrive. It will be a hard blocker if you are looking for teaching position though.

One thing you don't mention that would be important to figure out which countries would be a good fit for you is how important (or not) is to have access to a thriving Jewish community for you.

[-] telavivgirlexpat@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Interesting, didn't know that. Well, yeah I want to have access to a thriving jewish community, do most European countries have big jewish communities? Im actually not sure

[-] ViatorOmnium@piefed.social 7 points 4 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

France, UK, and Germany have the biggest communities (100k plus). Of this France has the biggest (440k and 2.8% of the population), but at least my perception is that it's also the unsafest country in western Europe for Jewish people right now - I would advice you to reach out to Jewish organisations in Europe to get an accurate picture on this point.

Hungary comes next, but I wouldn't recommend the country to anyone that self defines as liberal or progressive.

I think Netherlands and Belgium also have relatively big communities in the big cities.

I think all European countries have synagogue, but some have pretty small communities.

[-] telavivgirlexpat@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Yeah good advice, though Ive heard antisemitism is rising in France and some other European countries, like how its rising here in the US. So Ill have to check into that concern as well

[-] TheOctonaut@mander.xyz 6 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

How about you repay some of the privilege given to you by both regimes theft of less worthy people's resources and actually contribue to changing your homes for the better.

People used to be refugees from persecution, not from responsibility.

Anyway, you might be welcome in Hungary and probably India. Perth in Australia would work but you'd have to be white-passing to fit in with all the white South African post-apartheid refugees.

It sounds like you have a teaching degree which is a very country-specific qualification that is almost useless in other countries beyond maybe teaching English to American-occupied countries like Korea and Thailand.

Do you have any other skills with which to apply from abroad or do you expect to show up to a country and just be handed a visa and job? Which European countries did your grandparents colonise Palestine from? If you can get passports for those, you will at least have a right to be there.

[-] TheLunatickle@lemmy.zip 16 points 4 days ago

My goodness, you seem unwell.

[-] TheOctonaut@mander.xyz 3 points 4 days ago

Sorry that you're apparently just now learning that your country's whites-only immigration policies in living memory made it the most desired destination for the perpetrators of apartheid. Feel free to stop cosplaying a brit and just swear at me like an actual Australian though.

[-] TheLunatickle@lemmy.zip 10 points 4 days ago

You certainly seem to assume the worst of everyone.

[-] telavivgirlexpat@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

My parents don't come from any European country, lol. I'm a Mizrahi Jew.

[-] TheOctonaut@mander.xyz 2 points 4 days ago

Well, that's a real pity. Can't see many of those countries welcoming you 'back' for some reason.

[-] telavivgirlexpat@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

Yeah my grandparents are from Yemen, not exactly a place I could go to

[-] PastaCannon@lemmy.ml 4 points 4 days ago

Why not? Because you will face the consequences of genocide and can’t enjoy your life fully? You are still associating yourself with the most brutal disgusting fascist regime on this planet COMMITTING A GENOCIDE AND STARVING PEOPLE AS WE FUCKING SPEAK and see no problem with that?

As a European, you are NOT welcome here.

[-] Humanius@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Jesus Christ dude.. What is your fucking problem.
You're talking as if they personally strangled babies, even though you have no idea about their actual views and beliefs

[-] PastaCannon@lemmy.ml 4 points 4 days ago

Here, does this help understand? This is pure hasbara.

My problem is the starving kids in Gaza, but it looks like I’m alone here. I’m glad you sleep soundly at night.

She came here and announced her association with the zionist genocidal regime but I’m the asshole, got it.

[-] Humanius@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

People having a different point of view than you do on the best way to solve a complex and decades long conflict? The nerve!

[-] PastaCannon@lemmy.ml 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Complex? Alright, you are really testing my patience.

She just called people suffering genocide “recalcitrant”, people who have been ethnically cleansed for 80 years. How dare they speak up right? They should just die in silence and not bother the chosen race.

Of course, we need to believe and support the unknown random 1 day old user called “telavivgirlexpat” that posted 3 posts all centered around her dual citizenship.

Do you understand this is hasbara propaganda 101? Can we stop this fucking madness????

[-] Humanius@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Woah there cowboy, what a strong argument, I’m defeated.

Let’s do this, I will express my profound apology when you dm a Gazan person and convince them it is complicated and they should be more understanding of the israeli point of view.

You can post their reply here, big boy. Show us you are not a coward loser, I’ll wait.

Until then, you can shut up and don’t embarrass your ass anymore.

[-] Humanius@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

I'm literally not even trying to argue with you. I'm merely calling you an asshole for behaving like an asshole.

[-] telavivgirlexpat@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

The government that controls much of Yemen has the tagline "Curse be upon the Jews", so I'm not interested in moving in a wartorn country that wants me dead.

Europe isn't on the top of my places to move to because antisemitism is increasing there.

[-] TheOctonaut@mander.xyz 6 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

"Antisemitism" isn't rising anywhere. The same people that have always been antisemetic are still antisemetic. What you're seeing is anti-Israel sentiment, which is increasing because a country you have benefited from and therefore have responsibility to fix is committing an actual genocide and its soldiers - your soldiers, if you're calling yourself Israeli, and quite likely your comrades unless the American part means you ran away to the US to avoid military service - are committing war crimes with smiles on Tiktok.

Shirking your responsibility because of the bad vibes you get from being murderer-adjacent will not make you friends anywhere.

[-] PastaCannon@lemmy.ml 5 points 4 days ago

This is not antisemitism, the people you associate with ARE KILLING CHILDREN IN THE MOST BRUTAL WAY POSSIBLE. THE BURNED THEM ALIVE, THEY SNIPE KIDS AFTER LURING THEM OUT IN THE STREETS, PUT DRUGS IN THE FLOUR, BOMB THEM RELENTLESSLY WHILE STARVING.

This is not antisemitism, this is human decency, the bare minimum. And since there are still people like yourself who can’t even acknowledge why there is a rise in israeli hate, i feel we should be even louder.

you are still regurgitating hasbara propaganda, i hope no country will welcome you. You deserve no welcome until you change your attitude.

[-] Vupware@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago

Dude fuck off. Europe aids and abets Israel, get off your high horse.

Many Jews, even in Israel, want a stop to the genocide.

We can argue about a two state solution blah blah blah, but at the end of the day you cannot profile someone based on their nationality alone.

The same thing happens to Russians. It’s fucking disgusting and you should be ashamed of yourself.

[-] PastaCannon@lemmy.ml 4 points 3 days ago

Yes, I agree, Europe is complicit (some more, some less) we can cut Ursula’s head.

https://www.pewresearch.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/20/2024/05/pg_2024.05.30_israeli-views-war_0_01.png

Some 53 per cent of respondents said they believe Israel should not permit aid to enter Gaza, while only 34 per cent supported allowing lifesaving food, medicines and water to enter the enclave.

This is a recent data, in January was 72% Source

I wouldn’t categorise them as “many”. Still the majority of israeli want to keep the blockade (it’s a war crime FYI).

So yes, I will not trust any self proclaimed israeli anymore and i will profile them, ask them about their opinion on ONE OF THE WOST ONGOING GENOCIDE IN HISTORY, and absolutely judge them on this basis.

If you talk about 2 state, you are clearly still inside israeli propaganda. This bla bla bla are kids dead while the west decides what to do with them.

israel does NOT exist, never did. I might be on a high horse but at least I don’t defend genocide enablers like you. We are in this situation EXACTLY AND PRECISELY for people like you and these other ppl here.

I clean my ass with your opinions of me, your downvotes are medals.

[-] Vupware@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago

FWIW I asked OP if they were aware of the distinction between anti-semitism and anti-Zionism and have not received a response yet.

I guess the only difference is that I gave them the benefit of the doubt and you didn’t.

Suspicion, however, does not justify immediate hostility. Your message is being muddled by anger. Your arguments would be better received without immediately attacking OP!

[-] PastaCannon@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 days ago

I know I look mad and aggressive, that’s because I really fucking am. I’m surprised how naive all of you are, the situation in Palestine is unbelievably serious and dire. I shouldn’t be more calm, you should be more angry.

This is a country who continuously lie, all day, every day. Who buys majority and opposition. Who creates terrorist cells as an excuse for an enemy. A whole society raised to lie to everyone’s face, ignoring reality gaslighting you and playing the victim.

You have been duped by a fat incel rat sitting in his desk in israel manufacturing propaganda for a genocide state and you bro went there to ask “🥺 Sir pls are you the baddie?”.

So, sorry, but no. The benefits are over. I don’t want to be better received by israeli. I want them to be scared.

[-] PastaCannon@lemmy.ml 4 points 4 days ago

Thank you, don’t worry your moral compass is alive and healthy.

[-] Cocodapuf@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

I mean, she's leaving, which would deprive them of her taxes, it's the most she can do.

[-] TheLunatickle@lemmy.zip 3 points 4 days ago

Australia is always an option.

[-] jaek@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

We have enough Zionists, no thanks.

[-] telavivgirlexpat@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago
[-] TheLunatickle@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago

I think so! Although I am a white guy so my experience may not be applicable.

[-] telavivgirlexpat@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Nice beaches, nice quality of life, but dont know how racist it is tbf

[-] TheLunatickle@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago

Neither do I tbh, I'm aware of the terrible shit Australia has/is done/doing to Aboriginals but I don't think there is any systemic racism towards other groups. But again I am sheltered by both my crippling social anxiety and gender/skin colour, so you may need to ask someone with more personal experience.

[-] telavivgirlexpat@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

I'm brown skinned since I'm Mizrahi, but I figure most Australians don't even know what a Mizrahi is

[-] TheLunatickle@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago

Probably not. but sample size of one, I don't think you would have a problem!
