I just break the bead, pour it in, and reseat/reinflate. Not prehistoric, no big deal really.

[-] JBar2@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Reseating has always been the issue for me. I can never get the full bead seated without an air compressor, and even then it can be hard to get that final pop

Yup, it depends extremely on the tire/rim combination. Some are extremely easy, some are almost impossible to get seated.

I have a compressor bottle. You pump it up with your foot pump to about 10 bar and then use that to fill the tire. Works pretty much every time.

Here's the one I have.

I just unsrew the inner part of the valve (Schrader), use a bottle with a thin tip I've prefilled and squirt the goop it in via the valve stem, rotaring occasionally. Screw the stem insert back in, tighten and reinflate the tyre, I thought i was easy. How is it complicated?.

Don't they just have syringes you can use instead? That seems easier-er...

[-] perishthethought@piefed.social 4 points 2 weeks ago

They claim in the article that syringe tubes get clogged. I have no experience with this.

[-] JBar2@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

If the syringe tube is wider than the valve stem inner diameter, you can't insert the tube all the way thru the stem and it's a pain in the ass to slowly fill without spilling

[-] nocturne@slrpnk.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

Or something like a grease gun that screws or clamps onto the valve and then forces the goop in.

Just buy a stans no tubes refill bottle. 2 oz. Then keep refilling the sucker. Remove the valve core. If you're doing it the old school way it's way messier. The stans no tubes syringe was even messier.

I always seat tires before putting sealant in and this almost guarantees no splash back. https://sprocketkings.com/products/stans-no-tubes-regular-tire-sealant-2oz-bottles

What made the syringe messier?

[-] vomitproject@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Just like the device in the article it's fitted around the valve and the sealant goes everywhere. At least the stans syringe was over valve.

It's a little sad that we need to actually say this, but:

Don't be an asshole or you will be permanently banned.

Respectful debate is totally OK, criticizing a product is fine, but being verbally abusive will not be tolerated.

Focus on discussing the idea, not attacking the person.
