Much more rooted in reality than Roger Corman's & Paul Bartel's other road race movie, Death Race 2000, but it's still a fun enough time. Cannonball stars many of the same people as the before-mentioned movie, plus it has bit parts for Allan Arkush, Roger Corman, Joe Dante, Sylvester Stallone and even Martin Scorsese.

Wow I didn't know that existed but I've seen Death Race 2000 several times. Sounds like the same movie minus the Sci-Fi
I also recommend watching a couple documentaries on the subject, the cannonball run is a real thing and very interesting.

my god, it's beautifully shot! day, night, interior, static, action - you can find movies made today who can't pull this off
