If people don't want other people hearing or learning about something, it's probably worth learning

Even conspiracies. Learn about where they come from and why they're wrong.

Little-known fact: evolution was just a smokescreen because they couldn't actually prosecute him for that hairdo.

This is the most convincing argument for creationism I've ever heard, and I grew up in a religious household.

The trial transcript has some great verbal jousting between Clarence Darrow and William Jennings Bryan. Bryan was a great orator, but Darrow was able to make him look foolish.

TIL that people with the Tintin hairdo actually existed

This is mentioned briefly in both the articles, but wanted to highlight that the Scopes trials were initially initiated as a media stunt by the local coal company to bring money and attention to their town. They selected Scopes as the defendant, William Jennings Bryan as lead prosecutor, and, after H.G. Wells declined, Darrow as defense.

Civic groups testing the law to bring them to trial isn't an unusual practice, but it being led by local business to profit the town is.

people who dont believe in evolution as part of thier identity, usually dont even make it past hs, or even CC, they often drop out very quickly once they have to answer quesitons in biology that contradicts with god.

I've seen lots of them graduate where I live. They typically argue with it and say "Scientists don't know everything" and continue being ignorant throughout the rest of their time in school

I think this dude is awesome, but if they were going to arrest him for anything it should have been that hairstyle.

And considering news headlines in the US right now, where certain sections of science are being suppressed, while others are promoted mainly for profit.
