stopping the worst state sponsor of terrorism from acquiring nuclear weapons

I don't think it's possible unless you invent time travel, but if Trump did stop USA from acquiring nuclear weapons I think he would deserve a Nobel Peace Prize indeed

I get you, but this article says 'opinion' right at the top, which means it's not news.

Is all opinions now good to publish?

Should Nazis also get articles in the opinion section?

What about flat earth theory believers?

The outlet is responsible for making sure that even opinion articles are logical and factual.

Is this article logical and factual?

[-] Libra@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Of course not, but neither is misrepresenting opinions as news as op did. The fact that news outlets publish opinion pieces is not new or even newly offensive, and the fact that it's clearly labeled as such right at the top of the image and op didn't notice or care means op is just fanning the flames of outrage bait.

Maybe it's a typo, it was meant to say "humour".

no, trump deserves the Nobel Piece of Shit prize

The wild thing is, the headline is objectively correct. (But really, no US president ever deserves a NPP.)

Just look at the other NPP presidential recipients:

Barack Obama had a kill list, a gulag at Gitmo, and was dropping bombs on seven different countries during his presidency. Jimmy Carter's hands were blood-soaked, especially in Southeast Asia. Woodrow Wilson got us roped into WWI, where millions died over a literal few meters of terrain. Teddy Roosevelt got us roped into the Spanish-American War and whined that the US didn't involve itself in WWI early enough.

Whether you like him or not, Donald got us out of Syria and Afghanistan, and while definitely doing so for the wrong reasons, he's done more to try and resolve the genocide in Palestine than anyone since Clinton.

"resolve the genocide in Palestine". Are you talking about his plan to mass deport Palestinians and build resorts on their land? Kind of like answering the "Jewish Question" was for the Nazis.

[-] Zagorath@aussie.zone 9 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah I'm all for pointing out how ludicrous it was to give Obama a Peace prize. But it's ludicrous to somehow pretend the guy currently actively inflaming genocide, aiding a foreign country firing missiles completely unprovoked at another foreign country, and sending residents to concentration camps without even the pretense of due process is somehow more deserving.

Just wait until we crack open an American history book for you, friend.

It's going to be illuminating.

The point here isn't that Donald is a good, virtuous leader. It's that US foreign policy and every former president have set the bar so low for peace that Donald can do all this shit and he's still better-qualified for an NPP by virtue of the fact that he actively ended several wars during his first term.

That's Netanyahu's plan though. Trump doesn't make plans. He puts his signature underneath lobbyists plans.

[-] pr06lefs@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 weeks ago

Trump is no less culpable because he lacks the creativity to come up with a hideous extermination policy on his own.

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

No.

I'm referring to the multiple ceasefires and his decision to ice Netanyahu out of some of those discussions due to his intractability.

And yes, it's still a poor record, but it's better than Joe Biden or Barack Obama, who jumped however high they were commanded to by Benjamin Netanyahu.

[-] pr06lefs@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 weeks ago

Hey I'm sure he's better than genghis khan too. But the notion of an NPP when he spouts this fascist ethnic cleansing horseshit makes me want to fucking vomit. "Poor record", yeah and Ted Bundy had a bad dating history.

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Understandable.

I wish more people would have had that vomitous feeling back when Dubya started speedrunning fascism, and then Obama, and then Donald I, and then Biden. This has been a quarter-century project of slowly desensitizing us to the horrors of what our government is doing in order to normalize it.

But nope. The wheels were greased and now we're going off the cliff.

[-] zdhzm2pgp@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 weeks ago

Uh, Biden got us out of Afghanistan, didn't he?

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

No, he just acted on the agreement made by his predecessor.

Which, TBH, I also think Donald did for nefarious reasons, but it was still a net positive to end that atrocious war.

[-] zdhzm2pgp@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 weeks ago

So are you saying "even a broken clock is right twice a day" type of thing? One thing that comes to mind is scrapping the TPP, which would've sucked, but he got rid of it because it was an Obama thing, so he did the right thing but for the wrong reason.

I'm fairly confident that Trump will never get the NPP under any circumstances, but then again the world has gotten so batshit crazy that I'm waiting for aliens to land at this point.

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Sort of.

The weird thing about Donald is that we sometimes get good things out of him but for completely wrong reasons, and as someone who is anti-war, the withdrawals from Syria and Afghanistan stick out for me.
