The new tool, called Mobile Fortify, uses the CBP system which ordinarily takes photos of people when they enter or exit the U.S., according to internal ICE emails viewed by 404 Media. Now ICE is using it in the field.

Upload a photo of an LAPD cop to identify them. It's not ICE or all jurisdictions, but it's a start.

Facial recognition gets more false positives on POC. This is just an excuse to lock up innocent people.

I went to look for this article about two black men who look similar, and found a recent case of similar looking men that were arrested, resulting in a dismissed conviction against one

I don't think they look identical in pictures, personally, but am also aware of how faulty eyewitness testimony is

It's difficult to identify cops when they hide their name, badge number, and face. And when they get extra, pro bono legal support when challenged.

And those are just the developments from this year that I can recall.

Edit: this was supposed to be a reply to @NoiseColor@lemmy.world but either my app broke or I'm half blind

Great, let's all fucking wear masks again -_-

[-] XLE@piefed.social 13 points 1 month ago

It's your right until they ban it

[-] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 1 month ago

Many red states have banned wearing masks at protests.

[-] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago

Already have some places.

Can't people identify these agents?

[-] taco@piefed.social 12 points 1 month ago

This is exactly why so many of them are masked.

[-] PixelatedSaturn@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

I meant like forensically finding out who they are. It can be done and I bet there is a lot of people online who would pitch in.

Not legally.

So this is why GOP just introduced a bill in MI that would allow the police to force you to remove your mask. Good thing ICE is not police so they can fuck off if they tell me to remove my mask.
