TL;DW:

  • Stormbreaker is intended as a "next step in the exploration gameplay".
  • Stormbreaker is not an event or a mission taken from the mobi, it's a permanent sandbox activity.
  • Stormbreaker is a continuation of the regen crisis storyline focused on another company.
  • New facilities have a new door lock mechanic which requires players to dress in faction specific clothing.
  • Lots of unique loot hidden around.
  • Finding tips on how to progress requires reading through lore strewn around the locations.
  • Storm around the next location does distortion damage to your ship, gotta go on foot. Also deals radiation damage when on foot.
  • To travel through the storm you have to take shuttles on the edges of the storm.
  • Expect to fight against lots of NPCs and wildlife.
  • This activity will come with audio logs to find.
  • More story content coming in August.

The good news is that these new activities will be spread out over more locations than Hathor so you might have a better chance to try them out even before the new shiny drops.

All roads lead to Pyro 1. That's where they'll be

Sure but aren't there like 8 or so lab locations? Plus a few of the initial, non radioactive facilities? I'm not saying it'll be perfect, but should allow more people to do this stuff at once compared to 3 Hathor sites.

That's not exploration gameplay.

But they sold too many exploration JPEGs to admit that.

What do you mean travelling between couple static combat locations isn't exploration? You have to look around to find out where to go next!

sad that they use crusader shuttles, would have been more cool to have an actual usecase for ground vehicles.

[-] warbond@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I would have sworn that's where they were going with the storm hazards. Lame that it's just back to the shuttles.

[-] DmMacniel@feddit.org 1 points 1 day ago

Oh yeah. Why do those shuttles not get overloaded just like our spacecrafts?

[-] warbond@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago

I think they said the shuttles have "special shielding" aka plot armor

CIG seems to be having trouble utilising all of their game systems in tandem unfortunately. Maybe one day. At least there shouldn't be any solo Idris lockdowns like around Hathor sites.
