Seriously, nobody needs more fucking Trump spam on this or any website. Stop making these shitty subs to slip your slave colony demagogue bullshit into people's TLs. Fuck off and 🪫 him already.

I've been thinking about it, and one simple rule would make this sub 100% better: No schadenfreude.

Yes, please!

schadenfreude

i did not know what the word meant, but looked up, and it is essentially no catharsis, and this is something i also proposed in my post asking for help regarding rules for this sub.

Hey, it's related, but not really the same. Schadenfreude means to take pleasure in another person's misfortune. E.g. something bad happens to someone I don't like. I think that almost all political posts I take issue with here fall under that category.

Linked to this community in another comment today, gonna do it once more: https://lemm.ee/c/goodnewseveryone@piefed.social you're all welcome to subscribe. No political stuff there (⁀ᗢ⁀)

[-] catloaf@lemm.ee 25 points 1 week ago

Thanks, subscribed. Shame the name reminds of Futurama's Professor Farnsworth's "good news, everyone!" which was inevitably bad news.

[-] themurphy@lemmy.ml 17 points 1 week ago

But also a funny reference.

[-] Sophocles@infosec.pub 13 points 1 week ago

Now that I have a valid replacement time to say good bye to "uplifting" news. Hard agree on the political stuff being annoying. While it's important to acknowledge both negativity and politics, that's not what I come to lemmy for, esprcially on the "uplifting news" board.

[-] sga013@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

i did a post in this community to ask if we should change rules, and got a pretty poor response. in the comments, people said political news can be uplifting, so we have not deleted political stuff. I can not single handedly change the rules

[-] Mobiuthuselah@lemm.ee 6 points 1 week ago

"Misery loves company." The most miserable among us tend to group together and complain together. You heard from the vocal minority that feeds on schadenfreude.

[-] huppakee@lemm.ee 9 points 1 week ago

There is a valid point in these people deserving a community (I don't think it should be this one, but still).

[-] Mobiuthuselah@lemm.ee 5 points 1 week ago

I see now how I answered ambiguously, but we're in agreement. The miserable crowd that just wants less shitty news should have space of their own. This instance should be uplifting.

It's not even complicated. War is not uplifting. Fascism is not uplifting. Pollution is not uplifting. Murder is not uplifting. Famine is not uplifting. Bigotry is not uplifting. Genocide in particular is not uplifting. Not even if the numbers are down a bit (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/orphan-crushing_machine etc).

Politics can be. Just read the headline and article/ingress and ask yourself if it's news and if it's about uplifting things or depressing/angering things. Only post if it's uplifting and news.

Imo the comments should also be very aggressively (heh) kept to that same standard if the c is even pretending to actually be uplifting.

Fuck off and 🪫 him already.

Fuck off and battery him? What?

[-] Aatube@kbin.melroy.org 15 points 1 week ago

So the mods haven't been awake? I thought some cultural shift happened here lol

[-] huppakee@lemm.ee 9 points 1 week ago

Up until two weeks ago every once in a while a post would be deleted, but haven't seen a comment being deleted for a while now.

[-] sga013@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

i try to check twice a day, can not check while at work or i am asleep. there is a deleted post almost once in 2 days.

[-] catloaf@lemm.ee 9 points 1 week ago

Might be worth having another active mod or two, then.

[-] Aatube@kbin.melroy.org 9 points 1 week ago

I can help!

...if you decide to trust me...

[-] sga013@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

i have made you a mod, in case something is wrong (federation does not work well with moderation, and for simplicity, you would have to make a .world account, i did too. many of my mod actions from other account do not federate back), please message

[-] Aatube@kbin.melroy.org 3 points 1 week ago

thanks! aight i've filled out an application for @Aatube@lemmy.world .

[-] huppakee@lemm.ee 4 points 1 week ago

I likely don't notice always, most posts I don't comment on and then I don't check back either for example. But I glad you do your part. I think my only problem with the moderation is what post do and don't stay, I never saw a rude comment for example stay up for long. As op points out, a lot of political stuff do get their fair share of upvotes so it becomes hard to see if moderation is agreeing or not enforcing. But I think this poster saying 'I don't care if I break the communities rules, the upvotes prove the content is good' doesn't leave much room except for difficult choices.

[-] sga013@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I can not really hate on them depending on popular vote. I would wish if we do not have political stuff, but most of those posts and votes comes from people who are really upset of current us administration, and just venting out

[-] Owlboi@lemm.ee 15 points 1 week ago

the only uplifting trump news would be if he tripped and died

[-] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

I would accept it if Trump actually went to jail. The 100th post about Trump doing illegal stuff and never getting punished does not really do it for me.

[-] Merlu@lemmy.ml 11 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

If you are not satisfied with this sub's content, then create your own with your own rules instead of whining. It's explicit that the content you're complaining about is satisfying for most of the subscribers here, positive scores are a numbered proof.

[-] Carmakazi@lemmy.world 50 points 1 week ago

Basically all of the political schadenfreude being sold as "uplifting" here is coming from you, so of course you're going to defend it. This place is only your personal blog because the mods are asleep at the wheel or just indifferent.

[-] Merlu@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The fact is that people are liking them, you're basically whining in the void. If you don't like what's published here or what the mods are doing, so why are you staying here?

[-] nulluser@lemmy.world 49 points 1 week ago

As one of the people that up voted many of those posts, I can assure you that it was because they were just in my main feed and lumped in with the other news and I didn't notice what community they were in. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I'll try to be more vigilant in the future.

There are plenty of very popular general "News" communities. Nobody is going to harass you for posting stuff that's not really uplifting to any of them.

[-] blakenong@lemmings.world 2 points 1 week ago

I love it, don’t stop.

[-] Usernameblankface@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

Does your content fit the community description?

[-] BussyGyatt@feddit.org 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

given the state of the us, a valid strategy has less to do what is fitting and more to do with what you can get away with.

[-] Mobiuthuselah@lemm.ee 5 points 1 week ago
[-] logicbomb@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

Basically, if you disagree with the moderators about what is appropriate content for a community, it is difficult to find any path forward.
