To go centrist they need to move to the left ·_·

[-] swelter_spark@reddthat.com 12 points 4 weeks ago

If this means they're less conservative, good.

[-] orclev@lemmy.world 18 points 4 weeks ago

This is the opposite of that. They're shopping around for a more conservative candidate and calling that "centrist". They called Obama too left. The guy whose most notable achievement was passing a rebranded Republican healthcare bill (which Republicans still treated like it was the most progressive socialized single payer system ever despite it being just about the polar opposite).

[-] swelter_spark@reddthat.com 9 points 4 weeks ago

Ugh. I was afraid of that.

[-] direwolf@lemmy.ml 3 points 4 weeks ago

As the article said Josh Shapiro and Andy Beshear would be considered centrist.

[-] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 6 points 4 weeks ago

By Nazis maybe

[-] direwolf@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 weeks ago

Republicans are conservative. The progressive wing of the Democratic Party is too far to the left. Democrats must move toward the center in order to attract more voters. Note the centrist candidate in Romania just won.

[-] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 10 points 4 weeks ago

Note that the centrist candidate in the US just ate shit

[-] direwolf@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 weeks ago

In the 2024 presidential election, there was no centrist candidate. Trump was to the right and Harris to the left.

[-] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 weeks ago

Lol no. Harris was to the right and Trump was to the far right.

[-] direwolf@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 weeks ago

No. Harris said that she wouldn't change anything that Biden did. So, her views were identical to Biden's.

[-] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 weeks ago

Yes, and Biden was right wing

[-] direwolf@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 weeks ago

If Biden who permitted a flood of illegal migrants is right wing, what is Trump?

[-] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 weeks ago

Well, for one thing, Biden didn't actually do that, as you've been shown multiple times. For another, Trump is far right.

[-] direwolf@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 weeks ago

Remember, Governor Abbot of Texas was busing illegal migrants to sanctuary cities because there were so many. If an open border policy is to the right, what would be a leftist policy?

[-] swelter_spark@reddthat.com 6 points 3 weeks ago

The Republican and Democrat parties are both conservative these days, leaving people who aren't conservative with no representation. It makes more sense to me for each party to offer a clear alternative, instead of both supporting the same policies to attract the same voters and leaving everyone who doesn't agree with those policies disenfranchised.

[-] SpicyLizards@reddthat.com 10 points 4 weeks ago

Lol, somewhere centrist between the old status quo and full-on fascism. Good to see their still supporting their donors.

[-] ferric_carcinization@lemmy.ml 7 points 4 weeks ago

It seems like your personal views are a lot more right-wing than normal on lemmy.ml. While you may see yourself as a centrist or leftist, that is not the case for others.

You might feel more at home on a different instance, like lemmy.world. Not only would local posts & users be more aligned with your own politics, you could also avoid the stigma/stereotypes associated with this instance. Even if you move to another instance (Lemmy server), you'll still be able to interact with most other instances, though some defederate from (block) some other instances.

To the contrary, I welcome criticisms my views in order to know whether they are correct or need adjusting. If you belong to a group in which everyone thinks the same, you will learn nothing. It's called groupthink. From https://www.investopedia.com/terms/g/groupthink.asp

Groupthink is a phenomenon that occurs when a group of individuals reaches a consensus without critical reasoning or evaluation of the consequences or alternatives. Groupthink is based on a common desire not to upset the balance of a group of people.

This desire creates a dynamic within a group whereby creativity and individuality tend to be stifled in order to avoid conflict.

You haven't actually taken any criticisms on board though, you've just ignored them and copy pasted the same comments again.

It would be a smart move by Democratics. People prefer centrist views over extreme left or right. In Germany, the centrist candidate won.

[-] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 13 points 4 weeks ago

The Dems would have to move left to be less extreme

[-] direwolf@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 weeks ago

No. They are already too far left.

[-] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 7 points 4 weeks ago

So you want them to get more extreme?

[-] direwolf@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 weeks ago

No, they have to move to the center.

[-] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 8 points 4 weeks ago

The centre is left of the Dems.
