I guess to be fair I was never really a stickler for any particular method; I’m just a lot more open to a lot of them.

Here's the thing. Trump is just a poster boy. The real problems will continue long after he's dead. There will be further assholes. Trump is a puppet. The string puller will last on.

We need to address the core root, not the symptoms.

[-] Davel23@fedia.io 34 points 1 week ago

I don't disagree, but Trump is definitely a unifying figure for MAGA. Hopefully when he's gone there will be in-fighting among different MAGA factions trying to enact their own agendas and will cause fragmentation and irrelevance for many of them.

[-] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

I can see that. Vance will be one. DeSantos will be another. Musk might even get in on it.

If I were Hillary Clinton, I'd just troll them, and run as a republican.

[-] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Remember that Hillary and Bill told Trump to run, believing he would be easy to defeat. They donated to his campaign in 2016

[-] billwashere@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

I agree. I think Trump’s real purpose is to just take the heat for a lot of unpopular policies and he’s just too dumb and narcissistic to realize it.

It will be interesting to see how MAGA changes after he’s gone.

[-] Dagamant@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

He is like a pustule. The disease is underneath and around the area but squeezing it empty will be a huge relief and afterward the healing will accelerate

[-] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

It's become very apparent that the puppet poster-boy is a very critical piece to the puzzle, and for some fucking reason, he's an effective one.

[-] lurch@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

If that's true, that's okay. You just get rid of puppets until they run out.

[-] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 week ago

Not a viable long term strategy unfortunately. European anarchist found that out the hard way

[-] lurch@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

which ones did they get rid of?

[-] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

A lot, but notable political figures are Archduke Franz Ferdinand, Tsar Alexander II, Sadi Carnot (president of France), Antonio Cánovas del Castillo (Spanish prime minister), Empress Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary, King Umberto of Italy, U.S. President William Mckinley (anarchism debated here), King Carlos I of Portugal, Spanish Prime Minister Josè Canalejas, and King George I of Greece. All within roughly 60 years. They also killed plenty of unnamed bourgeois throughout the years.

[-] lurch@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

those are not even from the same country. it's unrelated incidents.

[-] supernight52@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Also, these are all able to be traced back to anarchist movements? This is the first I'm ever hearing that.

[-] lurch@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

Not all, but some.

I wouldn't call any of them a puppet of a string puller who would just install the next, even if we'd say the puppeteer is an elite group. But it's a question of definition where a shadow government ends and a regular political party starts.

[-] supernight52@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

That's my point- they're claiming all of them are anarchy motivated, but that's patently false.

[-] rhombus@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

The rot will definitely still be there, but the power vacuum Trump will leave behind is going to massive. Not only that, but a lot of Republicans are just spineless opportunists and not hardcore ideologues, and they may see it as an opportunity to push back against the nutjobs who have taken over the party.

[-] PunnyName@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Both. Let's address both. Like a proper system of healthcare would.

I'm going to be one of those parents. I'm going to share what my 7 year old said at breakfast earlier this week as he looked over my shoulder at the pictures in the newspaper and asked me what the articles were about.

I forget how it came up, but I mentioned that Trump is very old and might die of old age in less than 4 years. He said:

I don't want him to die but I don't want him to be their ruler anymore.

I told him he was right and praised him for being able to hold those two ideas in his head at the same time.

...Personally I'd prefer a single event that resulted in the horrific death of several specific top USA officials due to their own malice/avarice/corruption, but I don't want him to be too cynical.

I think it'd be best to be horrific, to shock society into demanding better leadership. I don't think we'll be so lucky.

I’m going to be “that guy”. It’s over. We’re toast. Stick a fork in democracy; it’s done. All we can do now is survive day to day, and hopefully not end up in El Salvador. Welcome to 1984.

Downvote all you want, but take a long look in the mirror and come back and tell me how I’m wrong.

[-] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Doomerism is counter-revolutionary and a tool of the bourgeoisie to supress material opposition. This isn't about you, its about the billions of people who don't live in the imperial core and will be harmed most by our inaction. If you truly believe your situation is hopeless then act in a way that gives hope to others.

Elections certainly won't save you, but mass civic resistance might. If you're afraid of fascism, organize and go on strike.

[-] KelvarIW 6 points 1 week ago

There's no peaceful way for the USA to get out of this. If Trump AND Vance would ignore a 9-0 Supreme Court ruling, I don't see why they'd listen to a formal impeachment and removal, or a loss in a re-election bid? And that's assuming they don't use federal agents or coercion or sabotage election systems to cheat a win there.

We will need a physical on-the-streets, in-the-capital Revolution to overthrow Trump and Vance. Perhaps that will only happen once Trump is legally removed and refuses to abide by that. You can call me a "fed" for saying this. I don't know why this idea is so shunned, especially in a country that celebrates the group of anarchist terrorist revolutionaries who denounced their government for far less than what is happening here.

Democrats and establishment "Independents" act like Democracy is a self-enforcing system. I'm reminded of what BLM protesters said years ago: "Who do you call when the police are killing you?" || Who do you call when the man who wields the military and police, breaks the law?

All governments rule with the permission of the Many. Perhaps those people are reluctant, perhaps they sit idle out of fear. It doesn't change the fact that WE empower the economy -- WE keep their lights on, their food stocked, and their positions funded. And if an unruly mob of white nationalist losers could storm the Capitol in Jan 6th, WE could take over this government with a fraction of the effort the Patriots needed to fight off the British Army. Just because we voted this man into power does NOT mean we need to endure 4 years of tyranny.

[-] LogicalFallacy@lemm.ee 5 points 1 week ago

Do you have guns? A community watch? Regular meetings? These are all possible even without the social media tools the tech bros control. It's okay if you're not up for that, some are, some aren't, but it's the only choice left it seems.

[-] endeavor@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 week ago

Trump will have a bad day once you dumbasses read your constitution and realize some amendments do not only apply to schools.

[-] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Not sure if you’ve been paying much attention to the US situation, but the constitution is pretty much useless these days. The branch of our government that is supposed to uphold it (judicial) has been long-bought-and-paid-for by dark money (i.e. bribes and kickbacks) from special interests and billionaires like the Koch brothers, Rupert Murdoch, Elon Musk, etc.

Long story short: we’re past being saved by the equivalent of toilet paper.

I still think it's better for him to just keel over from his terrible eating habits, but OP's sentiment is perfectly understandable.

[-] andybytes@programming.dev 6 points 1 week ago

Trump and Biden were terrible presidents. The USA is a imperialist empire and not a democracy.

[-] andybytes@programming.dev 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Manchurian candidate activated. Hahah Just think in terms of domestic abuse or domestic problems. Once Trump's base realizes that he lied to them, the left wing won't need to do a thing. The last thing you want to do is be reactionary and create a climate of dangerous leftist mob. Once Trump's base is angry, just remember these are the individuals with the guns and have been preparing forever. We're not to the point where we're at World War 3 completely. Once your kids get drafted, watch all hell break loose. The right wing is repulsive, but just wait. They will be your friendenmies. Most domestic terrorism is created by right-wing ideology. The guy that shot President Trump was a Republican from Pennsylvania. Just remember that. Keep your head on a swivel. Hold tight the American impiralist Empire is falling apart. Trump is accelerating this, which tittolates me.

[-] TheKingBee@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

The naivety that still people have about authoritarian followers baffles me...

There is no point at which his base will turn on him.

There is no action he could perform, no line he could cross, no hardship he could impose that they won't accept gladly so long as he promises them that "the enemy" suffers more.

There is no turning back from this point of the fascist take over, I'm not a historian, but I've been reading books on how countries fall and there isn't a single one I can think of (please i'm begging you name one, no snark I honestly don't want to be right) that have turned back from this precipice, what comes after is blood, famine and war... Maybe we get some sort of stability after, but that's a crap shoot...

[-] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

With the despicable and corrupt chain of succession, I have a preference.

Article II, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution outlines the process for removing the President, Vice President, and all other civil officers of the United States from office through impeachment. It specifies that these individuals can be removed from office upon conviction of treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.

[-] helvetpuli@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I spent months imagining what I'd like to do, or see being done to Trump and his lackeys, but I think all of that imagined violence was doing me moral harm.

So now I like to imagine Tolkien's giant eagle swooping in to grab them and dump them into Chesapeake Bay.

[-] small44@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 week ago

As a non american , i would like to let him destroy the american empire for all the crimes it did for the last few decades

[-] nednobbins@lemm.ee 5 points 1 week ago

We can all understand the attraction in seeing the US get its comeuppance but the death throes of the US would likely be quite unpleasant.

If the US could somehow transform into a more enlightened member of the international community, we'd all be much better off. Barring that, even a return to it's prior position as self-appointed world police would likely be less destructive than an actual collapse.
