A group of penguins is called a distribution.

[-] bruhbeans@lemmy.ml 12 points 6 days ago

I'm in this picture and I don't mind at all. Penguins are fucking cool. I'm gonna go to Argentina just to see them in the wild.

[-] fluxion@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago

It is said that only those who make the pilgrimage to see the penguins in person will be blessed with the full power of linux

[-] Ziglin@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

Do zoos count? Then child me might have given more power than I could have imagined.

[-] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 12 points 6 days ago

I actually really like Penguins, but I think it was because of Fight Club and not Linux.

[-] antithetical@lemmy.deedium.nl 3 points 6 days ago

I always liked penguins and Tux.. But that movie cemented penguins as my spirit animal :)

[-] Shipgirlboy@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 week ago

his name is tux!

Does anyone know how we ended up with penguins as the logo? I kinda get the BSD demon “beastie.” Microsoft chose the windows flag/window pane. Mac has an Apple/the finder face. Android is a cute green robot. iOS pretends to be too sophisticated for a mascot so we’ll just say it’s the Apple again.

And yet we somehow got penguins.

[-] Machinist@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago

Wasn't it something like Linus really likes penguins?

[-] Ziglin@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Based on a song parody by SUSE I believe a 'little penguin bit him at the zoo'. But don't quote me on that.

[-] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

SuSE songs are considered canon in the Linux world.

[-] UxyIVrljPeRl@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

I like petting them, can recommend. Dont get bitten, can't recommend.

[-] AllOutOfBubbleGum@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Are these called "Wojack" memes? I've never understood why this art style became so popular.

[-] power@lemm.ee 6 points 6 days ago

soyjaks. and they embody the more grubby parts of the web

[-] AllOutOfBubbleGum@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Ah, gotcha. Feel like I'm too old to keep up with it now.

[-] KMAMURI@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

I can hear this meme.

[-] fxomt@lemmy.dbzer0.com 46 points 1 week ago

Holy fuck, is that a GNU/LINUX reference?

[-] cmgvd3lw@discuss.tchncs.de 26 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Death Proof (2007)
Is this a Gnome reference?

[-] fxomt@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 6 days ago

Everybody knows god stole the idea of feet from GNOME

[-] ikidd@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago

Richard Stallman, the early days.

Death proof... This movie got me laughing so hard at this guy as a kid.. xD .. I'm surprised I still remember the movie's name

[-] TabbsTheBat@pawb.social 19 points 1 week ago

The collective noun for a group of linuxes is a "a musk of linuxes"

[-] pennomi@lemmy.world 40 points 1 week ago

These days I suspect most Linux users would like to distance themselves from the term “musk”.

[-] TabbsTheBat@pawb.social 16 points 6 days ago

I honestly forgor that guy exists for a second x3

[-] Dagnet@lemmy.world 23 points 6 days ago

Must have been a blissful moment, however brief
