Rule 1:

Sexy pirate John Oliver artwork ONLY

Now I have been there for around 4-5 months and Reddit just killing piracy over there and making it a rule uploading this bullshit sucks.

It is not really a useful sub anymore, get off.

Yes I will be active on her though. It is the only useful thing now.

Do you think they just want to troll you?

Have you really not read one of the many stickied posts all over Reddit about the blackout and what the admins are going to do to that website?

Yeah, that's literally the entire point. If the subs are unusable, site traffic falls, Huffman makes less money and looks worse to the investors, and people find better alternatives like here.

[-] thesanewriter@vlemmy.net 38 points 2 years ago

It's honestly hilarious Reddit bungled this so badly as to upset everyone. Ah well, at least with this digital piracy community I can rest assured a corporation isn't censoring discourse.

Reddit is probably going to be happy about the protest in this sub. Can't imagine that investors like the sub about getting stuff for free...

[-] RomanRoy@lemmy.world 30 points 2 years ago

I mean, the sub was closed and Reddit forced it to reopen, so there is an argument they do endorse piracy

[-] gsa32@lemmy.world 21 points 2 years ago

I still can't believe Reddit actually decided to do that. I thought they were going to ban the sub or keep it closed.

[-] thenonymousrexius@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 2 years ago

I figured given all the other subs to force back open, they should've just not risked the potential bad-press of appearing to endorse digital piracy right before going public as a company, and just stayed quiet and said nothing.

But then they should be happy we wanted to stay close right? How is a big dead sub better than a private one new people wouldn't even know it exists? Forcing r/piracy open was a very weird decision, I still don't get it.

Active on her? She's a lucky lady 😂

[-] user@lemmy.one 30 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Piracy and privacy guides, two main reasons why I'm here. Arggg 🤣

[-] lemann@lemmy.one 7 points 2 years ago

Aye a fellow lemmy.one user 🙋‍♂️🚢

[-] Denvil@lemmy.one 3 points 2 years ago

Aye a fellow lemmy.one user!

[-] fell@ma.fellr.net 26 points 2 years ago

@hyperio The great thing is, I don't even have to sign up. I just follow this sub (do you still call it a sub?) from my #Mastodon!

Ahh, bless the #Fediverse.

[-] arthur@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 years ago

I think is called community now. At least is c/piracy to access !piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com

[-] rooster_butt@lemmy.world 20 points 2 years ago

You would think that a pirates favorite letter be the r/, but it truly always was the c/.

[-] FuriousFrodo@vlemmy.net 5 points 2 years ago

@hyperio

Ohhh, what a clueless summer child. Hussshh, everything will be alright.

[-] Gabbro@kbin.social 19 points 2 years ago

It won't be the same without RARBG. 😭

[-] nicman24@kbin.social 13 points 2 years ago

i still miss isohunt and mininova

[-] Staark@kbin.social 8 points 2 years ago

I've not thought about Isohunt for a looooong time. That takes me back.

[-] Zefrem23@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 years ago

Mininova? I still miss Suprnova!

[-] kronicmage@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 years ago

Wow haven't heard those names in ages

[-] Markoff@kbin.social 9 points 2 years ago

yeah, consistently great 1080p X265 releases you could rely on them, this was a big loss for me, nobody release that many X265 releases that fast, PSA only mainstream, megusta only TV shows, everything else either too slow or too rare

[-] throwachimera@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I've switched to the RBG and INFINITY x265 1080p releases from TorrentFunk or 1337x. IMO they are a decent replacement for the RARBG x265 1080p releases but its hard to find some movies.

The selection on RARBG was just insane..

That being said. You can still find plenty of the old releases on other trackers.

Let's do it then

[-] great_meh@discuss.tchncs.de 14 points 2 years ago

Arr, take my wooden peg!

[-] webghost0101@lemmy.fmhy.ml 12 points 2 years ago

Quick question, how does this piracy community compare with fmhy?

[-] hoshikarakitaridia@lemmy.fmhy.ml 12 points 2 years ago

Fmhy are just providers of the instance and that's what their general communities focus on. For information regarding the high seas, this is the community you want to look into.

[-] darkstar@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 years ago

No actually fmhy is technically a "competitor" to this community if you want to call it that. I personally think fmhy has a better megathread than this one due to it being updated much more frequently, but essentially both communities are similar.

[-] Poiar@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 years ago

Either one community will become big and the other small.

Or, the two communities will start going into niches (like, one being more focused on movies and the other games)

And seeing as you can subscribe to both, I assume that these communities will assist each other.

The strength of federation is that you have no "one-true-community" anymore. If one gets sick (I.e. Reddit) you have other safe havens to take over

[-] azron@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 years ago

Ich war dabei. Los Piraten!

[-] Zednix@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 years ago

I didn't use /r/piracy, but I do read this forum

[-] PunchEnergy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 years ago

I'm afraid to ask, but why John Oliver?

[-] Contend6248@feddit.de 12 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

He makes Last Week Tonight which is a show with a big reach, Reddit-Mods are essentially pinging him.

He did respond on Twitter with a dump of sexy pictures of him to post.

The show is on pause because of the writers-strike at the moment, so it might take a while for this to be a topic.

Just the quality of replies and posts here over the old sub, is honestly alone worth the move.

[-] solidsnake2085@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

The whole John Oliver thing is just awful. Glad to be moving here for good when Sync shuts down.

[-] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 12 points 2 years ago

That's kinda the point of the John Oliver thing

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago
[-] solidsnake2085@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Yes I'm super excited about it! I'm using Jerboa currently but will start using Sync once it's available.
